College Basketball Odds - Villanova at Georgetown Game Preview

Villanova-at-Georgetown-(FS1)

Conference play has not gone well for the Georgetown Hoyas. Georgetown won eight straight games to start the season, but the team had played a bunch of bad opponents and had yet to be really tested.

Now, the Hoyas are being exposed for what they really are. They are sitting at just 2-4 in the Big East and have gotten hammered by the two ranked teams they have faced thus far. Now, the No. 1 ranked Villanova Wildcats are coming to town and will be looking to show that the road to the Big East title still goes through Philadelphia.

This war on the floor will go down Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at 6:30 p.m. ET at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. The game will be televised live on FS1. We'll have NCAA basketball odds at BookMaker.eu available for this and every game on the college basketball Wednesday schedule.

Villanova has only lost once this year, but the Wildcats have had a little trouble covering ever increasing spreads. They have only covered once in their last four games, yet that win was extremely impressive. They hammered Xavier by 24 points at home and picked up a very key victory.

Over has been a great bet in Villanova games this year. Seven of the last Nova games have gone over the total and overall the over is 11-6 in its games this year.

Georgetown has not defended its home court well this season. The Hoyas are just 3-6 ATS at home and were hammered by 24 points by Creighton in their last home game.

This time has been on a nice little tear in recent weeks though. Georgetown has covered six of its last eight and the under has cashed in six of its last eight as well.

Key Stat

Efficiency has been one of the hallmarks of Jay Wright’s tenure at Villanova. This offense has been lights out in each of the past four seasons. This year is no different either as the Wildcats are hitting better than 50 percent of their field goals and greater than 40 percent of their three-point attempts. That kind of production has become standard with Nova.

Jalen Brunson leads the way in this regard. He has taken over the leadership role on this team and has shot the lights out this year. Currently, Brunson is hitting 57.5 percent from the floor and 48.1 percent from beyond the arc. He is also the team’s main distributor, leading the team in assists.

Amazingly, there is not a weak link on the team in this regard. Of the eight rotation players, everyone is hitting at least 46.4 percent from the field and all but one is draining at least 41.3 percent of his threes. That’s extremely impressive.

Player to Watch

For Georgetown to have a shot in this game, its big men will need to have great performances. Jessie Govan is the team’s best big man and will need to have a great game when the spotlight is shining on him.

Govan is averaging a double-double this season. He is knocking down 51.9 percent of his field goals and is pulling down 11.4 rebounds per game. His game has really taken a step forward under Patrick Ewing who has made him a more effective shooter and rebounder. Additionally, he is a decent perimeter shooter and can make opponents pay if they don’t respect his ability to hit the triple.

The Hoyas have the size advantage in this one. They have two bigs that can rebound in Govan and Marcus Derrickson and that will give them a shot here. Additionally, they play solid defense and can stay in front of Nova. In the end, Nova will be too much, but Georgetown will stay within the number.

College Basketball Odds: Villanova 81, Georgetown 76
