College Basketball Odds - Villanova Wildcats at Marquette Golden Eagles Live Betting Preview

Villanova-at-Marquette-(FOX)-Odds

There's only one team in America this season which hasn't lost a game to an unranked foe. The Villanova Wildcats still have three regular season games left against teams from outside of the AP Top 25, the most dangerous game of which is going to be on Saturday afternoon on the road against the Marquette Golden Eagles.

SCHEDULING

This last road game of the year for Villanova really shouldn't be all that tough, but the schedule lends itself to there being some potential problems for live bettors. The Wildcats haven't generally taken their foot off the gas pedal in tough road games of late, but especially if they beat Xavier on Wednesday, there will have to be some complacency going into this one with the Big East regular season title already on lockdown.

This is a big week for Marquette. The Golden Eagles are just barely holding onto a potential spot in the NCAA Tournament, but they've got some opportunities here for a pair of RPI Top 50 wins against Creighton and Villanova. If the first game is lost in Nebraska on Wednesday though, this game becomes a little less meaningful, because we just don't see a way to dance even with an upset of the No. 1 team in the nation without capturing the Big East title. Live bettors need to be ready to see the motivation or lack thereof on either side in this one.

KEY MATCHUP

Marquette's frontcourt has been its strong point this year, but we've always known if it was going to dance, it was going to be the backcourt that had to step up and find a leader offensively.

Finally, a leader has risen in Haanif Cheatham. The frosh is only averaging 11.7 points per game this year, but he has scored at least 20 in three of his last four, and his outside game has drastically improved in this stretch.

Cheatham is going to have an interesting matchup here in front of him. He'll likely find himself matched against Josh Hart more often than not, and we're not sure how he's going to react to a man who is 20 pounds heavier than he is. Cheatham isn't the fastest man on the court, but he's going to have to leave Hart waiting in the dust in this game to get some points on the board.

If this becomes an inside game only for Marquette, live bettors are likely to have a field day on Villanova. Sure, Henry Ellenson and Luke Fischer both reached double-digits in scoring, but they combined for just 10 rebounds, two of which were on the offensive end of the court. Daniel Ochefu will clean up that glass like he did when he had 13 boards against the Golden Eagles, and there will be a slew of one-and-done possessions which don't end well for the hosts.

KEY STATS & TRENDS

Many have been waiting for Villanova to trip this whole season, but entering the crucial road game at Xavier, the Wildcats had covered three road games in a row, each win of which was more impressive than the last.

It's really tough betting on Marquette at home with the way it has played at the BMO Harris Bradley Center this year. The Golden Eagles are just 3-4 SU and 1-6 ATS in their seven home games in conference play this year, and they're merely 4-12 ATS at home for the NCAAB season after starting 3-3 ATS in their first six home games.

Marquette also only has one RPI Top 50 win this year, though live bettors will have to draw some confidence in the fact that that one was against Providence two and a half weeks ago.
