Among the college basketball conference tournaments few of them offer the combination of competitiveness and pressure than the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament. The University of North Carolina Wilmington’s run as back to back champions of the CAA Tourney is almost certain to end in 2018. Such dominance has been the exception rather than the rule for the CAA Tournament. In fact, the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament has posted eight different schools as winners since 2008. Along with regular season co-champs Charleston and Northeastern are top dog threats Hofstra and William and Mary. All in all, the CAA Tournament looks like one of the best for action and betting opportunities.
The 2018 Colonial Athletic Association Basketball Tournament takes place from March 3 through March 6 at the North Charleston Coliseum in North Charleston, South Carolina.

Saturday, March 3 marks the opening of the CAA Tournament with two games on the card. Game One features James Madison vs. Drexel followed by Game Two with Elon matched up against Delaware. Four games are on tap for Sunday. Game Three will pit the winner of Game One against College of Charleston. Game Four is between Towson and William & Mary. The winner of Game Two will face Northeastern in Game Five. Saturday action concludes with UNC Wilmington vs. Hofstra. Semi Final action is slated for Monday. The winner of Game Three will face the winner of Game Four in Game Seven followed by the winner of Game Five vs. the winner of Game Six in Game Eight. Tuesday features the all important championship game.
UNC Wilmington suffered a stunning collapse this season with first year head coach CB McGrath. The Seahawks finished 10-20 straight up including 7-11 in conference. A third consecutive CAA Tourney title is a pipe dream.
The favorites for the CAA Tournament are Charleston and Northeastern. The Charleston Cougars used a decent defense and just enough offense to earn the regular season co-championship. Northeastern was just slightly behind Charleston for defensive prowess while the Huskies were of similar offensive ability.
Perhaps the biggest threat to upend the top two teams is the Hofstra Pride. Hofstra boasts the top player in the tournament in Justin Wright Foreman, who made the Pride a much stronger offensive team than Charleston or Northeastern. Defensively however, Hofstra was lacking and that is what kept them from winning the CAA regular season title.
The William and Mary Tribe are another top underdog choice. William and Mary lights it up with the nation’s fifth highest scoring offense. The problem is that a defense that ranks a horrific 336th in the country offsets that scoring power. The Tribe has good scoring depth but lacks an individual star such as Foreman.

The UNC Wilmington Seahawks got the money in just ten out of 26 lined games. Charleston’s Cougars lost just six of their last ten games vs. the line entering this tournament. Slumping badly with the line are the Northeastern Huskies with just one payout in their last nine games. In strong form as a betting value has been the Hofstra Pride with just one loss in their last eight games vs. the odds. William and Mary are also frequenting the cashier’s cage. The Tribe has seven payouts in their last nine games.
Player to Watch
Justin Wright Foremen of the Hofstra Pride is the man to keep an eye on. The junior guard from Queens, New York led the team in scoring with 24 points per game. Foreman has the hot hand with 20 points or more scored in seven of his last ten games. Foreman is the type of player that can trigger an upset. His dominance as a scorer makes Hofstra a threat any time they take the floor.
