It took several months, but the Cleveland Cavaliers are finally playing like a team capable of making a deep run in the NBA playoffs. The Cavs have captured five consecutive games and will look to keep rolling this week in a matchup against the Charlotte Hornets.
Despite the hot streak the Cavs are still only a game ahead of the surging Philadelphia 76ers in the Eastern Conference and need to keep piling up victories. Charlotte has the advantage of the home court advantage in this contest but is the inferior team so it will be interesting to see where the NBA basketball spread checks in at for this one.
Cleveland could be a slight favorite based on its recent play.

Odds Analysis
The Cavaliers are 44-29 straight up and 26-46-1 against the spread. Cleveland has covered in 16 of 35 attempts on the road this season. The Cavaliers are an ugly 15-41-1 against the spread as the favorite.
The Hornets are 34-41 straight up and 32-39-4 against the spread. Charlotte has covered in 18 of 38 attempts at home on the year. The Hornets are 9-21-4 against the spread as the underdog and have done much better as the favorite, which is something to remember when the NBA betting line is released.
Player To Watch
LeBron James —The Cavaliers’ superstar is 33 years old but he is playing like he is a half-decade younger. James has put together a dominant season, averaging 27.5 points, 9.1 assists, 8.6 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game.
He is shooting an astounding 55 percent from the field and 36.6 percent from three-point range. James has scored at least 33 points in four of his past five games. James had 37 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists last time out in a win over the Nets.
He has registered a pair of triple-doubles during the team’s winning streak and could very well do it again in this one unless the Hornets can figure out a way to slow him down.
Key Stat
21. That’s the number of wins Charlotte has accumulated this season at home against 17 losses. The team is several games under .500 on the season but has done a nice job at home. Charlotte has won three consecutive games at the Spectrum Center and would love to pick up another victory.
The Cavaliers have not been great on the road this season. Cleveland has gone 19-18 away from home so it makes sense for the spread to be pretty close in this matchup. The Cavaliers have done a nice job on the road lately, winning three of their most recent four games away from home.
Free NBA ATS Picks
The Cavs are not going to catch the Toronto Raptors or Boston Celtics for a top-two seed in the Eastern Conference, but they have won the conference consistently with LeBron James on the team. The group seems to be coming together, and the return of Kevin Love to the lineup has been a big help.
The Cavaliers are playing well but the spread may be too much in their favor in this one, as the oddsmakers could try to take advantage of a betting public riding Cleveland. The Hornets have played well at home and they are the choice to both win this game and cover the spread in NBA basketball wagering.
The “under” could be the correct call as this one could be a little sloppy as Cleveland will be playing the second game of a back-to-back on the road.
NBA Odds: Hornets 109, Cavaliers 103
