Atlanta is in the middle of the pack in the Eastern Conference and won’t just roll over in this one, but the Hawks aren’t on the same level as San Antonio. Expect the Spurs to be comfortable favorites in this matchup as they play well at home and have one of the most talented rosters in the league.
The Hawks have done pretty well on the road this season, so that’s something to consider when it comes to the spread.
This war on the floor will go down Monday, March 13, 2017, at 8 p.m. ET at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas. The game will be televised live on TNT.
We'll have NBA odds available for this and every game on the NBA Monday schedule.
Odds Analysis
The Hawks are 35-29 straight up and 29-35 against the spread. They have played in 31 road games on the year and have covered in 16 of them. Atlanta is 11-8 against the spread as the underdog.
The Spurs are 50-13 straight up and 33-29-1 against the spread. They have played at home 29 times this year, covering in 14 of them. San Antonio is 29-28-1 against the spread as the favorite on the year.
Letdown Game
The Spurs are very well coached, and Gregg Popovich will do everything in his power to make sure the team is focused for this game. However, it will be human nature to let down a bit in this one as it immediately follows a huge clash against the Golden State Warriors.
The Spurs and Warriors are the two best teams in the West and are expected to face off for the right to play in the NBA Finals in this year’s postseason. This regular season clash could help decide the seeding in the playoffs so all eyes will be upon it.
San Antonio will then have to turn around two days later and play against Atlanta in a much less-exciting game. However, the Spurs are a veteran team, so they should be able to bounce back fine.
Matchup to Watch
Dwight Howard vs. LaMarcus Aldridge -- The Spurs hope to perform well in the post using Aldridge as their main weapon, but he faces a tough opponent. While Howard isn’t a superstar any longer, he is still a solid player and good defender.
Aldridge is averaging 17.3 points and 7.5 rebounds on the season. He is shooting 47.2 percent from the field and hopes to be efficient against Atlanta. Dwight Howard is averaging 12.9 rebounds and 1.25 blocks per game. He isn’t the same intimidating rim presence as earlier in his career but Howard is still a solid player.
Aldridge is the main piece, but Pau Gasol will also hope to win the low post matchup when Howard matches up against him.

The Spurs have won nine of their past 10 games and look every bit like a contender. They have re-tooled on the fly from the Tim Duncan era and now boast Aldridge and Kawhi Leonard to win the way. Popovich has spoken of resting some of his players down the stretch to prepare for the playoffs, so make sure all of the key pieces will be available for this one.
If so, San Antonio won’t have too much trouble taking care of business. Both of these teams play solid defense, so don’t expect a shootout. San Antonio will come away with the win, but take a look at the spread as Atlanta may be able to keep this one close enough to cover.
NBA Odds: Spurs 105, Hawks 199
