NBA Odds - Sacramento Kings at Los Angeles Lakers Game Preview

Kings-at-Lakers-bm

The Kings have a golden opportunity to pull closer to the eighth seed in the Western Conference when they take on the Los Angeles Lakers this week. The Lakers get this one at home but have been one of the worst teams in the league this season.

The Kings have knocked off some impressive foes in February and want to stay hot. The road venue should make this game have a close spread, but the Kings may be slight favorites.

The Kings are 23-32 straight up and 29-25-1 against the spread. Sacramento has played in 28 road games and has covered in 15 of them. The Kings are 8-10 against the spread as the favorite this season and 21-15-1 against the spread as the underdog.

The Lakers are 19-37 straight up and 27-28-1 against the spread. Los Angeles has played in 25 home games on the year and has gone 12-12-1 against the spread. The Lakers have gone 5-5-1 against the spread as the favorite on the year and 22-22 as the underdog.

Player to Watch

Louis Williams -- The Lakers are the rare team that has its leading scorer come off the bench. Williams doesn’t contribute a bunch elsewhere but can really score the rock. He is averaging 18.4 points per game, shooting 44 percent from the field and 38.1 percent from three-point range.

Both of these teams struggle on defense, and clearly the Kings will be planning on getting the ball to Cousins early and often. The Lakers don’t have a bona fide star like that and will be looking for someone to step up and take over.

Even though he is more of a journeyman, Williams could be the guy with a big scoring night. If the Kings can slow him down, they should have a good chance to pull out this win.

Key Stat

4. That’s the number of wins the Kings have in their last five games, as they have moved to within just a couple of games of the Denver Nuggets for the final spot in the Western Conference playoffs.

The Kings started their run with a huge upset of the Golden State Warriors, who are the best team in basketball and heavy title favorites. After a slip-up against the Bulls, they have since reeled off three consecutive victories.

The Kings picked up a victory over the Boston Celtics, who have the second-best record in the East, and then knocked off fellow Eastern power the Atlanta Hawks before downing the New Orleans Pelicans last time out.

Cousins was suspended for the Celtics game because of too many technical fouls this season, but has since returned to the floor and will look to keep his impressive statistical season going.

Cousins is averaging 27.8 points and 10.7 rebounds per game, but his moodiness always seems to lead to some drama. It is a lot easier if the Kings are winning, which has been the case of late.

The Lakers have one of the worst records in the NBA as they are still in the midst of a massive rebuilding project. This is a winnable game, and Los Angeles has been almost a .500 team at home this season, so it would love to pull it out.

However, the Kings are hot and they are the choice to keep it rolling with a critical road victory.

NBA Odds: Kings 113, Lakers 107
