NBA Odds -Utah Jazz at San Antonio Spurs Game Preview

Jazz-at-Spurs-ABC-bm

San Antonio lost to the Warriors earlier this week and is pretty much wrapped into the No. 2 seed, so it’s not out of the question it rests some starters in this one. Keep a close eye on the Spurs’ lineup. If they are at full strength they should be favored but that might not be the case with the postseason right around the corner.

Odds Analysis

The Jazz are 45-29 straight up and 33-39-2 against the spread. They have played 37 road games this season and covered in 16 of them. Utah is 25-25-2 against the spread as the favorite and 8-14 attempting to cover as the underdog.

The Spurs are 57-16 straight up and 38-34-1 against the spread. San Antonio is 18-18 against the spread at home on the season. The Spurs are 34-33-1 against the spread as the favorite and has covered in four of five attempts as the underdog.

Player to Watch

Kawhi Leonard -- The Spurs’ leading scorer struggled a bit this week against Golden State, shooting just 7-of-20 from the field and finishing with 19 points. He is normally much more accurate, shooting 48.6 percent from the field.

Leonard is averaging a team-high 26 points for San Antonio this season and has fared well against the Jazz so far this season, finishing with 29 points in the first matchup and 30 points in the latest meeting. He will look to deliver another big performance at home on Sunday, especially after a lackluster showing against the Warriors.

All in all, Leonard is having a phenomenal season. He has been putting up big numbers on a consistent basis and is more than capable of taking over a game.

Key Stat

96.7. That’s how many points per game opponents are averaging against Utah’s defense. The Jazz rank No. 1 in the NBA for points allowed.

This weekend, the team faces a San Antonio offense that ranks among the best in the league with the Spurs putting up 106.2 points per game. The Jazz held the Spurs to just 91 points in the first meeting between the teams back in November and won the matchup by 15 points.

San Antonio got the better of Utah in the second meeting later in November, winning 100-86. The Jazz don’t have the tools to hang with the Spurs in a high-scoring affair so it will need to rely on its defense in this one.

This one could come down to how much attention San Antonio plays to the game. If coach Gregg Popovich is intent on winning, his team should be able to hold on for the victory.

However, the game may be more important to the Jazz, which could factor into the outcome. This one could be a low-scoring defensive affair as both teams do a good job on that end of the court.

San Antonio can’t really move up or down in the standings, so even though it is at home in this one, keep an eye on an upset because the Jazz may be focusing more on picking up this victory.

NBA Odds: Jazz 101, Spurs 94
