Auburn with a healthy Broome is definitely the better team. It should be more even with him out of the lineup, but oddsmakers will have made a major adjustment to the odds and teams oftentimes will step up in their first game without an injured star player. The Aggies enter on a four-game winning streak and with eight wins in their last nine games boosting their record to 8-2. They are 5-4-1 ATS while cashing the UNDER in six of their 10 games. They were stunned in the season opener by UCF, 64-61, as a 6-point favorite then responded with four straight victories, including a 78-64 payout over then No. 23 Ohio State. The Aggies dropped a neutral site contest to unranked Oregon in November, though the Ducks have since climbed to No. 12 in the rankings.

AM has won three straight neutral site games since its loss to Oregon, most recently taking down Texas Tech on Sunday behind 19 points from leading scorer Wade Taylor IV. Taylor is the sparkplug for the Aggies offense averaging 16.1 points and 4.5 assists. He is among the top players in the talent-rich SEC, but it?s hard to put him at the top since he shoots just 38.3 percent from the floor and 35.4 percent from 3-point range. And the shooting woes go beyond Taylor. As a team the Aggies shoot 41.2 percent from the floor and just 30 percent from deep ranking them in the 300s nationally in both categories. As a result their average point total of 75.1 has them at No. 201.

As you can estimate the Aggies are winning on defense. Their relentless play is holding opponents to less than 30 percent accuracy from behind the arc and just 38 percent overall, to rank among the top 20. They also hold teams to less than 65 points per game. The defense will need to show up on Saturday against an efficient Purdue squad.

There?s been a change in the offensive philosophy now that Zach Edey is in the NBA. The Boilermakers spread the floor and have several scoring options to test opposing defenses. Trey Kaufman-Renn is producing at a high-level averaging 18.9 points while shooting 59 percent from the field and 50 percent from deep. In Saturday?s 83-78 win over Maryland Kaufman-Renn scored 21 points, his third game with 20 or more points in the last four.

Purdue opened the season with four straight wins, including a signature 87-78 takedown of then No. 2 Alabama on Nov. 15. Kaufman-Renn was brilliant hitting 12 of 23 field goals for 26 points and the Boilermakers? best players were their best players. Braden Smith has developed into of the best point guards in the country averaging 8.8 assists. He had 17 points and 10 dimes in the Alabama upset, one of his four double-digit assist games this year.

Alongside Smith, Fletcher Loyer gives Purdue a talented backcourt that can pressure the best defenses. Loyer averages 13.7 points making more than 52 percent of his three-point attempts for a team that ranks No. 7 nationally in three-point percentage. Purdue?s efficient offense will be tested by AM?s elite defense, but with more options and Smith?s ability to break down opposing defenses, this feels like a Purdue game. It also helps that it?s in the Boilermakers? backyard.

Losers of six straight following a season-opening win over Philadelphia, the Bucks matched that run on the positive side beating Washington 124-114 behind a triple-double from Giannis. Boston has showed no signs of a championship hangover winning 17 of their first 21 games and following each loss with a multiple game winning streak. We didn?t expect the Bucks to go the entire season playing as poorly as they did in the first few weeks of the campaign. But as the losses continued to mount some started hinting that a championship run wasn?t in the cards. The biggest difference has been the defense. When they won the NBA title a few years ago the Bucks were one of most efficient defensive teams. They seemed to distance themselves from that part of the game until recently getting back to lock down mode. Since the start of November they?ve been among the top 10 in defensive efficiency.

With players like Giannis and Damian Lillard offense isn?t going to be an issue. During their six-game winning streak they topped the 120-point mark four times. They did that just three times in their first 11 games when they went 3-8. It also helps having Giannis in the lineup. Back on the floor after missing a 106-103 win over Miami, Giannis tallied 42 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists in a 124-114 win over the Wizards, Milwaukee?s sixth straight. It was the third triple-double in the last six games he?s played. Antetokounmpo leads the NBA averaging 32.9 points and is fifth with 11.9 rebounds. He and Nikola Jokic are the only players among the top 5 in both categories.

Aided by Giannis shooting better than 60 percent from the floor, the Bucks shoot at better than 48 percent while averaging 113.4 points. Lillard is averaging 25.9 points but the scoring drops off significantly after those two. The Bucks will need more complementary scoring from guys like Brook Lopez and Bobby Portis until Khris Middleton is ready to return. Middleton has yet to play this season as he recovers, but according to Doc Rivers he?s getting close. And the Bucks could be more dangerous when he does.

Boston Celtics Team Overview

With Kristaps Porzingis back in the lineup the Celtics are the scariest team in the NBA. It doesn?t matter that they enter the week trailing Cleveland for the top spot in the East and that they just suffered a loss to the Cavs last week. In the second intense matchup between East elite, the Celtics blew a 12-point fourth quarter lead as they lost for the fourth time this season. The Celtics played without starters Jaylen Brown and Derrick White yet they were still hanging with the best team on the road until the end.

And that brings me back to the team being the scariest. With plenty of depth the Celtics go eight deep when healthy, and there?s little drop off when starters take a blow. Payton Pritchard is making an early case for Sixth Man of the Year averaging 16.4 points and 3.0 assists in 21 games. Six players average more than 11 points and their net rating of +10.4 is the best in the Association.

The duo of Brown and Jayson Tatum is what makes the team work, though. Tatum is off to another sizzling start averaging 28.4 points and 8.6 rebounds while Brown chips in 25.0 points. And the Cs are dropping threes like nobody?s business. They lead the NBA averaging nearly 51 triples a game and 19 makes. The sheer volume has made up for a 37.5 percentage, which isn?t bad at seventh in the league.

Let?s face it the guys make too much money playing in the NBA to risk injury in a tournament that?s not very highly regarded by U.S. standards. In addition to a number of NBA starts declining an invitation, the team recently saw James Harden, Anthony Davis, Damian Lillard and Bradley Beal withdraw their names. This isn?t the star-studded group we?ve seen in past competitions and the odds are likely to increase over the coming weeks as roster movement is fluid.

Of the players currently on the roster, only one ? Kemba Walker ? was an All-NBA pick last season. Walker and Khris Middleton were the only All-Stars, and only Walker, Julius Randle and Donovan Mitchell scored more than 20 points per game last NBA season. One area this group can be special is on defense. With Gregg Popovich coaching, you know Team USA is going to be strong, but can it topple the field for a third straight time?

They are the second favorite for a reason. With an abundance of NBA talent and fiery national team stars, the Serbs might have the best chance of upsetting the Americans if and when they play. Nikola Jokic is the centerpiece of the squad, but Bogdan Bogdanovich, Nemanja Bjelica and Milos Teodosic can all fill it up. Playing in a group with Angola, the Phillippines and Italy, shouldn?t offer much resistance, but there are few easy outs in this tournament.

The Spaniards aren?t as deep as Team USA and Serbia, but they have a strong cast of starters. Pau Gasol, a mainstay on the national team, is out with an injury, but toss in his brother Marc, Ricky Rubio and the Hernangomez brothers, and you have a potent group. A few big names won?t be playing when Serge Ibaka and Nikola Mirotic backed out of the games, and that?s a huge loss for a team without much depth.

Much like Spain, France has a definite NBA feel at the top of the roster but lacks depth the deeper you go. Rudy Gobert is the biggest name on the national team and he?s been the team?s ambassador leading up to the games. Gobert made a name for himself at the last FIBA World Cup with his defensive prowess helping France win its only medal in the history of the tournament. Now an established NBA veteran, he?ll be flanked by Nicolas Batum and Evan Fournier to give the French balance in the starting five.

Basketball is a team sport, but it certainly helps when the best player in the NBA is on your side. If you?re looking for a team to back why not throw down on Greece, which has the best all-around player in the tournament on its side. Giannis Antetokounmpo led the Bucks to the best record in the NBA last season, claiming league MVP honors along the way. They were stopped short of a Finals appearance making this another chance for Antetokounmpo to come out a winner. The hill is much tougher to climb than Spain or France, but this is a rare opportunity for
Giannis to play with his brothers Thanasis and Kostas, and that?s pretty frightening.
