Each singer in the second half of the Top 24 took the stage with an “American Idol” veteran, gunning for the Top 14. You can find American Idol odds at BookMaker.eu
It was good to see (some of) the veterans, and many of the performances were strong due in large part to their inclusion.
Helping out were six former Idols, to be exact: Winners David Cook and Jordin Sparks, up-for-anything Kellie Pickler and Constantine Maroulis, and Haley Reinhart and Chris Daughtry, the latter of whom was presented with a framed something or other by Seacrest and proved yet again that he should have won his season.
I wondered at one point if an "Idols Veterans" tour was being tried out on an unsuspecting public. If so, count me in.
Lee Jean's duet with Chris Daughtry on his hit “Home” left Jennifer Lopez “speechless.”
Manny Torres did a duet with Jordin Sparks on her “No Air” and was met with a blast of praise from the judges.
Olivia Rox, who showed off her potent vocals while dueting with David Cook on his “Light On,” prompted Cook and the judges to predict she’d stick around for a while.
Dalton Rapattoni, who yet again pleased the judges when he teamed up with Daughtry to sing Stevie Wonder’s “Higher Ground.” I had higher hopes for this duet, as I'm a fan of both of these guys. But even if the song selection hurt their duet (in my opinion) I still say Rapattoni is the one to be this, the final year.
Jenn Blosil did a duet with Constantine Maroulis on Frank Sinatra’s “My Funny Valentine” and earned a standing ovation from Urban.
Tristan McIntosh, a teen the judges felt had shown her age and inexperience during an earlier duet with Kellie Pickler, scored points for - according to Lopez - being one of the “special ones."
Trent Harmon charmed in his duet with Sparks on the Bee Gees’ “To Love Somebody."
Those who were sent home were:
Amelia Eisenhauer
Kory Wheeler
CJ Johnson
Shelbie Z
Adam Lasher
Making it through to next week:
- Lee Jean
- Olivia Rox
- Jenn Blosil
- Dalton Rapattoni
- Manny Torres
- Tristan McIntosh
- Trent Harmon
Next week, we and the judges choose our top ten, which includes our wild-card picks.
