2016-American-Idol-(Finale)-Betting-Odds

"Idol" began its week of final original episodes with a 90-minute look back at 15 seasons, with a heavy dose of first season winner Kelly Clarkson. The retrospective aired Tuesday night, with part one of the two-part series final airing Wednesday night.

It was really something to stroll down this Memory Lane and recollect who lost to who; sure, Chris Daughtry lost to Katherine McPhee, but she then lost to Taylor Hicks! Remember? And Jennifer Hudson not only lost to Fantasia Barrino - she got blown out at 7.

You know a show left an impact when you're shouting out names of people who haven't done much of anything since being unceremoniously dumped from a reality series some 10 years earlier, like they're a long-lost relative. Constantine! Bo Bice! William Hung!

But back to this, the final season. The final episodes. With Mackenzie Bourg sent packing just last week, there are three left standing, with a clear favorite and some surprising odds for one of her challengers (well, both really, depending upon how you look at it).

Trent Harmon +665
Dalton Rapattoni +351
La’Porsha -300

The Trent numbers are surprising, or is it the Rapattoni numbers? Rapattoni's odds were considerably better than Harmon's going into the finale, and TV critics have Harmon as a real contender for the crown. We needn't spend too much time debating, as someone would be sent home by the end of Wednesday's episode and it was clearly going to be one of these two.

They kicked off Part One each belting out their original numbers, as is the "Idol" finale norm. Trent was saddled with the dud, a faux-blues ditty called "Falling" that he went way over the top with. Dalton had the predictably pop number "Strike a Match," which he fared pretty well with. And La'Porsha had "Battles," probably the best song of the lot.

By the halfway mark the last two standing were revealed. As I predicted here last week, it will be La'Porsha and Trent. Now, lots of folks might've predicted these two standing at the end, but I'm the only one who saw the similarity between this season's final three and the first season's. using that math, I made my prediction. If that math holds - and I see no reason why it won't - La'Porsha will bookend the "Idol" wins. She won't pay much, but she'll win it.
