It was the married couple -Alexa and Carlos PenaVega- who found themselves in jeopardy, with Alexa saying goodbye, and after she delivered not one but two perfectly scored routines Monday night.
Alek Skarlatos and Lindsay Arnold: 48 total
Round One: 24
This week’s salsa dance in round one of the competition came up short for the judges, with them clamoring for some pizzazz. Inaba called it a “good effort,” but stopped there with any flattery.
Carlos PenaVega and Witney Carson: 51 total
Round One: 27
Carlos’sArgentine tango was impressive, especially the blind side-by-side choreography. Though the star and pro couldn’t see each other, they were perfectly in sync with their moves. Impressive.
Bindi Irwin and Derek Hough: 60 total
Round One: 30
After two weeks of high scores, the pair tried not to let the pressure get to them during their half-blind Viennese waltz and ended up earning a standing ovation from the audience. And the judges couldn’t get enough either.
Tamar Braxton and Val
Round One:22
A rule in the competition allows for Braxton to be judged based on her dress rehearsal footage while she is in the hospital with pneumonia. The judges had to base their scores on what they saw from the rehearsal, and the scores were likely lower than they would have been had the talk show host been able to perform live.
Nick Carter and Sharna Burgess: 56 total
Round One: 28
For hisQuickstep, Carter played it cool with a suave routine. Tonioli thought the routine was “slick, sharp and deadly cool,” and said so in his inimitable, annoying fashion.
Round Two:
Carlos and Witney / Alek and Lindsay: 24
Performing a Paso doble to “We WillRock You,” inspired by the performance on Royal Caribbean’s Anthem of the Sea, the two stars spent 30seconds dancing together without the help of their pro partners —and the outcome was strong. But it did leave the judges wanting more.
Bindi and Derek / Alexa and Mark: 30
Taking cues from the Broadway hitChicago, Irwin and Alexa chose Charleston. The two ladies nailed the musical’s signaturestyle and captured the spirit of the beloved Broadway musical. And the judges absolutely loved it!
Nick and Sharna / Tamar and Val: 27
Elements from a Cirque de Soleil showplus one star who was rushed to the hospital just hours before the performance? Oof. Talk about a performance that had a lot stacked against it from the get-go.
