And then there were six.
Rumer Willis is leading the pack as the season finale nears, and her odds here at BookMaker are finally reflecting that. +200 on the board and another great performance on the books.
The girl’s been a standout week after week, and with her routines this week, it looked like she was just dancing, and not necessarily on a dancing competition. She made a strong case that she deserves the top prize by getting perfect scores for two dances on “America’s Choice” and “Trios” night during Monday’s week eight of competition.
That gave her 80 out of a possible 80 points on a show in which fans gave input on the music, costumes, and tone of all the routines.
Willis and partner Val Chmerkovskiy flawlessly executed a rumba before Rumer pulled off a Pasodoble trio dance with pro Artem Chigvintsev that had the judges raving about her classic artistry.
Noah Galloway and Sharna Burgess were less exciting. Even so, they are safe and will return next week. They scored a 63 from the judges. Galloway is not the long-shot by any stretch of the imagination, with a cool +700 posted at BookMaker.
Our resident Olympic medalist, Nastia, has kept up quite the busy schedule and lost her partner due to an injury but the champion has persevered, so it’s no surprise that she is headed straight to the semifinals. With strong +220 odds to boot.
Official partner Derek Hough is still injured, so Liukin danced with Sasha Farber for the second straight week—but Hough made cameo appearances in the two routines, doing what he could.
Despite a perfect score, dark-horse Riker Lynch remained just that. It was announced that he was in jeopardy, but clearly only to build the drama, even if Willow Shields’ early dismissal proved a cautionary tale. Soon enough, Riker was put at ease and is headed to the finals. At +225 he really is a contestant to take seriously.
After the break, the first elimination was announced. It was between Noah and Robert, and it set a promising precedent for the night: The more talented star stayed in play, with Robert being sent home. Despite his and Kym’s insane chemistry, their sparks weren’t enough to keep them in the competition. A shame to waste chemistry in a dance competition really.
But that wasn't it! "Double eliminations," remember?
Up next, Nastia joined Rumer and Noah to compete in the semi-finals, leaving Riker in jeopardy with Chris.
Finally, after the last commercial break, it was time to say goodbye to … Chris. Yes, Prince Farming is headed back to his farm, and presumably prepping to announce he is no longer involved with whoever he gave that last rose to.
With Chris out, Riker’s in and deservedly so. The pop star puts it all out there every week and has a great chance at nabbing the Mirrorball trophy in a few weeks.
In fact, I'd say look for Riker to be a potential upset, otherwise it's Hollywood royalty Willis with the tropy, and Nastia will be in close range to both.
