One of the longest running reality shows in American television returns to the air on March 20, 2017. Dancing with the Stars will kick off spring with its 24th season and the competition to see who will raise the Mirror Ball Trophy will be fierce. Three of the top four favorites in the competition are former professional athletes, so there will be some familiar faces for the traditional sports bettor. The big question entering this season’s competition is whether or not Simone Biles can follow in her former Final Five colleague’s footsteps and win it all.

Biles is the overwhelming choice to hoist the Mirror Ball, but may not be the best bet with these odds. Typically, there aren’t back-to-back winners from the same sport or discipline and after Laurie Hernandez’ win in Season 23, viewers and judges may be reticent to crown another gymnast as champion. There’s no question that she is athletic and flexible enough to perform well with her partner and she should be safe in the competition for quite some time, but winning the competition will be a different story.
Morris has experience as both a singer and dancer for her role in Glee and has participated in a dance show before. Thus, she comes into this competition with more experience than many of her peers and will likely shine through the first few weeks of competition. Additionally, fan favorite performer Maksim Chmerkovskiy is her partner this time around and that should lead to a greater share of votes. Chmerkovskiy has led five different celebrities to place in the Top Three and has perhaps his most talented partner yet.
Putting some coin on Nancy Kerrigan isn’t a bad idea either. Figure skaters have fared extremely well in this competition in the past, with both Kristi Yamaguchi and Meryl Davis winning in previous seasons. Additionally, Kerrigan has a feel-good story that should resonate with the audience, a factor that has been important in the more recent seasons of the show with the audience and judges looking to latch onto an inspirational story. Kerrigan is one of the most famous people on this show and unlike some of the contestants, will be recognized by most viewers. She has been eyeing a spot on the show for some time now and will put in more work than her competitors.
Stay away from betting on Rashad Jennings. Although you might think that a wager on him is a good bet due to his athleticism, only name athletes have performed well in this competition. Whereas Antonio Brown and Calvin Johnson did quite well, Michael Sam and Keyshawn Johnson didn’t do so hot. The only former football players to have ever won were Emmitt Smith, Hines Ward, and Donald Driver and while Driver was somewhat of an unknown that was a really weak season.
When first elimination betting opens up, take a long look at David Ross. Ross was a beloved member of the Chicago Cubs during their World Series run this season, and spent 15 years as a catcher in the big leagues. However, like Jennings, he has a problem of name recognition, and there are major concerns about how well his knees can hold up after years of squatting behind the plate. He won’t have the mobility and flexibility that some of these other competitors will and can’t make up for it with an affable personality or some fond memories of the past.
