It's The Usual Suspects as we approach the 58th annual Grammy's this coming Monday.
Album Of The Year
Alabama Shakes –Sound & Colour
Kendrick Lamar –To Pimp A Butterfly
Chris Stapleton –Traveller
Taylor Swift –1989
The Weeknd –Beauty Behind The Madness
Who will win? Kendrick, I think? Sure, he walked into the building with seven nominations two years ago only to leave empty-handed, but they took so much heat for snubbing him, and they’ve gone so above and beyond to pre-anoint him this time around, I will be shocked if he doesn’t walk away with Album Of The Year.
Record Of The Year
D’Angelo & The Vanguard – “Really Love”
Mark Ronson Feat. Bruno Mars – “Uptown Funk!”
Ed Sheeran – “Thinking Out Loud”
Taylor Swift – “Blank Space”
The Weeknd – “Can’t Feel My Face”
Who will win? "Funk" is the favorite, boasting -500 odds. And Swift is actually duking it out with The Weeknd odds-wise, going into the weekend at +600.
Song Of The Year
Kendrick Lamar – “Alright”
Taylor Swift – “Blank Space”
Little Big Town – “Girl Crush”
Wiz Khalifa Feat. Charlie Puth – “See You Again”
Ed Sheeran – “Thinking Out Loud”
Who will win? Swift is out front on the lederboard at - 140, and Sheeran's curious odds of +200 only make me that much more curious as to what might happen here. "Girl Crush" - that trophy-gobbling hit this award season - at +2000? And the tireless “See You Again” maintaining at +600. If something crazy was going to happen anywhere, it would be here. Put your money on Little Big Town, and the payoff will be big.
Best New Artist
Courtney Barnett
James Bay
Sam Hunt
Tori Kelly
Meghan Trainor
Who will win? Meghan Trainor is the favorite, at -125, but I believe the bloom is off the rose. Bay's +200 - heck, his nomination alone! - has people brushing up on him, but if anyone snags this from Trainor it'll be Kelly, and she's plumbing the depths with +2000. Another nice payout though, right?
Best Alternative Music Album
Alabama Shakes –Sound & Color
Björk –Vulnicura
My Morning Jacket –The Waterfall
Tame Impala –Currents
Wilco –Star Wars
Who will win? Given that Alabama Shakes are up for Album Of The Year, probably them.
Best Rap Album
J. Cole –2014 Forest Hills Drive
Dr. Dre –Compton
Drake –If Youre Reading This Its Too Late
Kendrick Lamar –To Pimp A Butterfly
Nicki Minaj –The Pinkprint
Who will win? Dre could make a nice run at this, especially with "Straight Outta Compton" being such big box office, but the smart money is on Kendrick Lamar.
Best Dance/Electronic Album
Caribou –Our Love
The Chemical Brothers –Born In The Echoes
Disclosure –Caracal
Jamie xx –In Colour
Skrillex And Diplo –Skrillex And Diplo Present Jack Ü
Who will win? Skrillex and Diplo are performing; do the math.
Best Rock Album
James Bay –Chaos And The Calm
Death Cab For Cutie –Kintsugi
Highly Suspect –Mister Asylum
Muse –Drones
Slipknot –.5: The Grey Chapter
Who will win? The Grammys have a bad habit of making fools of themselves here, and this year looks to be no exception. Everyone says Bay, but I think Slipnot. Then again, I didn't see Jethro Tull besting Metallica, though.
Best Pop Vocal Album
Kelly Clarkson –Piece By Piece
Florence + The Machine –How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful
Mark Ronson –Uptown Special
Taylor Swift –1989
James Taylor –Before This World
Who will win? Swift will win.1989was an unqualified success, and the industry knows who’s paying their rent.
Best Country Album
Sam Hunt –Montevallo
Little Big Town –Pain Killer
Ashley Monroe –The Blade
Kacey Musgraves –Pageant Material
Chris Stapleton –Traveller
Who will win? Stapleton is 100 percent winning this.
