The most recent episode opened with a flashback to the previous night’s Date Card Bomb. Jared got a date card and asked Clare to accompany him. This upset Ashley I. and Mikey T.
On a sailboat Jared and Clare endeavored to have the type of conversation one would see in a Lifetime movie, which included gems like “a man who helps you conquer your fears” and other bits.
After some kissing, Clare returned from their date and ran to tell the other women about it in the bunks. Overhearing Clare detail the afternoon, Ashley I. began weeping.
Meanwhile, Jared's conversation with the camera played a different tune. He expressed reluctance to commit to Clare, implying that the age difference -- she's eight years older -- was an obstacle. This gave Ashley I. her open, and she went for it during the cocktail party, where they kissed.
Monday night's episode also saw the arrival of yet another Bachelorette alum: Michael Garofola, who previously appeared on Desiree Hartsock's season."
He immediately set his sights on Tenley Molzahn, who had already drawn interest from Joshua Albers and JJ Lane. Nevertheless, she accepted his invitation for a date, during which they dined atop a pool of water and were entertained by a mariachi band.
Mikey Tenerelli, still smarting from the Clare rejection, focused his attention elsewhere -- namely toward Juelia Kinney, who's interested in Joe Bailey, who was still hoping that Samantha from Chris Soules' season (the most recent) would miraculously show up. This is scorecard stuff.
At the cocktail party, Mikey and Jonathan tried to convince Juelia that Joe was not sincere in his intentions. Joe countered by arguing to Juelia that Mikey and Jonathan were simply trying to save themselves from elimination. Later, Joe and Mikey had a chat in which Joe insisted that he liked Juelia.
Jonathan apologized profusely to both Joe and Juelia for what he described as getting caught up in the game, then had a good cry in front of Joe afterward.
After all that, Joe told the cameras, "If I don't get a rose tonight, I would honestly believe I truly missed an opportunity to meet Samantha."
A preview for next week's episodes indicated that Joe breaks Juelia's heart.
As this last episode came to a close, before the rose ceremony began, Jade Roper told Clare she was offended by her rambling, sour grapes cocktail party speech. Clare started telling everyone how she didn’t come there to strategize, and this season is totally different than last season where everyone was actually there to find love. Jade called it the strangest showboating display she’s ever seen, and after taking a few moments to collect her thoughts, she spoke up.
Jade told Clare that not only is she there to find love, but she’s had intimate conversations with almost everyone there where they’ve expressed the same, so she’s not sure where Clare is coming from. Somehow Clare found "if the shoe fits" to be a fitting response to Jade's sweet remarks.
Clare couldn't manage to keep it together during the rose ceremony, where it was the women's turn to hand out the roses, bursting out while announcing, "I don't feel right being here."
