Favorites
TSoul has to be considered one of the favorites to win this season after another powerful performance in the battle rounds. He was given a relatively easy matchup as no one really expected Josh Hoyer to give him a serious battle and shined when performing “In the Midnight Hour” by Wilson Pickett. There is no doubt that he can sing his style, but there are questions about how his voice can translate to other genres later in the show. However, if he can meld well with coach Blake Shelton, the sky is the limit for him.
Stephanie Rice is another fan favorite who dominated her battle round, cruising past Caroline Sky. Although Sky ended up giving a good enough performance that she was stolen by Blake, there is no doubt that Rice was the better singer and she might just be the best singer that Gwen has. Her deep, sultry voice should be able to get her to at least the audition process.
However, there is a reason that Alicia Keys is the favorite to have this season’s winner. Alicia has two amazing talents in Lilli Passero and Anatalia Villaranda and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see either contestant win it all. Passero is such a talent that it’s a bit surprising that she doesn’t have a record contract. She doesn’t have the flaws that some of the other contestants have and the producers are definitely happy that she slipped far enough through the cracks to get on the show.
Villaranda may be the bigger talent to watch out for. The high school teenager has a voice that leaves you stunned she is so young and she doesn’t have the high-pitched squeakiness that sometimes slips out of some of her peers. There was no doubt that she was going to win her matchup in the battle rounds and she is certainly one to watch.
Betting by the Numbers
The only reason that there are more women than men left in the competition is because of Blake. While Adam and Gwen have 5 men and 3 women each on their team and Alicia has an egalitarian 4-4 split, Blake only has one male on his team with his other seven artists being female. It’s an interesting decision coming from Blake as most of his past winners have been male and he hasn’t had a female winner since all the way back in Season 4. He may have the best male left in TSoul but that’s it.
Adam’s team has the longest odds to boast the winner and deservedly so. He is the only judge that doesn’t have someone on their team that immediately jumps out at you and unless someone emerges in the coming weeks, it’s hard to imagine someone from his team will win the competition.
Instead, Blake is the best bet at this point. He has coached 5 of the 11 winners in seasons past and although Alicia has the better chance, he has the better odds all things considered.
