Last week the chefs were in San Diego and started the night with a Sudden Death Quickfire Challenge. Wesley took home the victory, which meant Angelina was eliminated. Alas, Wesley's euphoria proved short-lived, as the Elimination Challenge came and they had to create dishes capturing the flavors of microbrews created by the judges. He served up some overcooked lamb and because of that, he was next on the chopping block, so to speak.

This time...

QUICKFIRE CHALLENGE –Back in Los Angeles and back in the kitchen! For this challenge, they each got to pick one ingredient from the pantry. All ten chefs then had to create a dish using the ten ingredients picked. They each picked an ingredient one at a time, with the first two doubling down meat-wise and picking beef and then chicken. They had 20 minutes to create their dish.

RESULTS – The judges tasted all of the dishes and the least favorites came from Isaac and Karen. The favorite dishes of the night came from Jeremy and Amar. The chef with the winning dish was Jeremy, thereby snapping up immunity.

ELIMINATION CHALLENGE – Top Chef premiered ten years ago, which was made clear at every turn. For this challenge, the chefs had to create a dish showcasing who they were as a person ten years ago. Clever spin, daunting task. Our chefs struggled on this one, but came up with a menu and did the necessary shopping. Then they enjoyed some time back at the hotel.

The next day arrived and the chefs headed into the kitchen to create their dishes. The judges would be sitting right there as they cooked, so they’d be watching them plate the results. Tom Colicchio stopped by to check on the chefs and he had Michael Voltaggio, winner of Season 6, with him.

TASTING –

  • Marjorie –They said it was delicious and loved the vegetables.
  • Chad –They said the sharpness of the radish did it for them.
  • Isaac –They said it is really delicious and would love a big pot on the stove.
  • Jason –They said the fish was perfectly poached, but that it stopped there.
  • Karen –They said they were getting sweetness from fennel and liked it.
  • Amar –They said everything was delicious and spot-on with the story. The lobster was cooked perfectly.
  • Carl –They said everything was cooked and seasoned very well.
  • Phillip –They had a not-so-fresh- fish taste. He shot himself in the foot with the plating.
  • Jeremy –They said the salmon was unnecessary. Padma Lakshmi said it is a good thing he has immunity.
  • Kwame –Tom said it is not his, or Jeremy's, best effort, and that their dishes confused the hell out of him.

JUDGES’ TABLE – All of the chefs said the story got into their heads this week. The top dishes of the night went to Carl, Chad and Marjorie. The winner of this challenge was Marjorie. The least favorite dishes of the night were from Kwame, Phillip and Jason. The judges gave feedback on all the dishes, but it was Jason who got eliminated and Phillip and Jason survived the cut. He now heads toLast Chance Kitchento take on Angelina, who beat both Wesley and Grayson last week.
