2015 Ole Miss Rebels Season Preview - Betting Futures Odds and Win Total

Ole-Miss-Team-Preview-NCAA-BM-Season-2015

Bo Wallace might now be gone, but many believe that this could be the year that the Ole Miss Rebels legitimately contend for a National Championship anyway.

2015 SCHEDULE

9/5: vs. UT-Martin

9/12: vs. Fresno State

9/19: at Alabama

9/26: vs. Vanderbilt

10/3: at Florida

10/10: vs. New Mexico State

10/17: at Memphis

10/24: vs. Texas A&M

10/31: at Auburn

11/7: vs. Arkansas

11/21: vs. LSU

11/28: at Mississippi State

The non-conference schedule is pathetic for Ole Miss, and we have to wonder whether that is going to be a major deterrent for the team in 2015. UT-Martin, Fresno State, Vandy, New Mexico State and Memphis are all on the schedule in the first half of the season, though the two games around that – at Alabama and at Florida – won't be fun.

A third nasty road game at Auburn could be for second best in the SEC West, while the Egg Bowl being played in Starkville this year is concerning as well.

SEASON WIN TOTAL

Though no one would be surprised if the Rebels are right there for the CFP this year, their season total is only sitting at eight wins at this point thanks to those four really tough road games that have to be played along with the rest of the SEC West caldron. Certainly, the over will be the squarer of these plays, knowing that this is a team which could start off the year ranked in the Top 10 in the nation.

OFFENSIVE OUTLOOK

Chad Kelly and Ryan Buchanan are in the midst of a really good battle to determine who will be starting in Oxford in 2015. We have a hunch that both are going to end up seeing significant snaps by the end of the season, though we know that the running game is going to be the key to this team.

All those youngsters from the last couple seasons in the Mississippi backfield are all grown up now, and that makes Jaylen Walton, I'Tavious Mathers, Jordan Wilkins and Mark Dodson all very dangerous.

The receiving corps likely won't have its best weapon, Laquon Treadwell for most of, if not the entirety of the season as he recovers from a nasty injury suffered last year in the Auburn game.

DEFENSIVE OUTLOOK

Eight starters are back from a good, yet not great defense from last season. Robert Nkemdiche is one of the biggest forces in the middle of a defense in college football, while Tony Conner has All-SEC written all over him for a second straight season.

There were games where this defense looked legit last season, but there were also games against teams like Auburn (35 points), Arkansas (30 points) and TCU (42 points) where it looked horrible. Consistency is going to be a tremendous key.

SEASON PREDICTION

We're not believers in the Rebs in 2015. We love their under eight wins, and we think the fact that they are only 40 to 1 to win the National Championship is just far too low.

Last season’s schedule played into Ole Miss' hands, but we saw when the rubber met the road just how shaky this team ultimately was.

This year, we forecast an Ole Miss team which could go 2-6 in the SEC, and if that turns out to be the case, just barely going to a bowl game is going to be the end result. We just don't see a quarterback lifting this team to the next level, and that will be a catastrophe in a conference where there are plenty of capable pivots.
