There’s much anticipation for the Georgia versus Alabama match-up this Saturday. Alabama has not been a regular season road underdog since 2008, and now they enter catching 2.5 points against the ‘Dawgs.
WHEN ALABAMA HAS THE BALL
No. 13 Alabama is in a very rare underdog role, but coach Nick Saban knows his team is in tough at Georgia. On the Bulldogs, "Very physical, don't make a lot of mistakes, don't beat themselves much. And they play with a lot of toughness and they're very aggressive on both sides of the ball.”
The Crimson Tide rush for 202 and pass for 257 yards per game, and they had 503 yards against Ole Miss in a 43-37 loss but five turnovers did in the ‘Tide. Senior quarterback Jake Coker is completing just 55 percent of his passes with four interceptions, and Georgia’s defense is under-rated with a strong set of linebackers. The Bulldogs allow just 4.3 yards per play and 108 rushing yards per game; both top-25 in the country.
The ‘Tide like to air it out more under second-year offensive coordinator Lane Kiffen, but they will go to the ground game more with Derrick Henry averaging over 100 rushing yards per game at 6.0 yards per rush to go along with eight touchdowns. Kenyon Drake is also an explosive running back and can line up outside as a more gifted receiver as well.
WHEN GEORGIA HAS THE BALL
No. 8 Georgia is a strong, balanced offense and a 200 club member averaging 257 rushing and 221 passing yards per game. Bulldogs running back Nick Chubb has rushed for at least 100 yards in a FBS leading 12-straight games and has hit 600 rushing yards at over 8.3 yards per rush through four games.
Now he’ll try to continue his ground game success against Alabama’s No. 4 rush defense that allows 57 rushing yards per game and just 2.0 yards per rush. Sony Michel is another explosive back who will aid in the ground game success against an Alabama run defense facing its strongest challenge of the season.
Georgia’s offensive line is one of the very best in the SEC and senior quarterback Greyson Lambert has yet to throw an interception for an offense averaging 45 points per game under first year offensive coordinator and former NFL OC Brian Schottenheimer.
Lambert has thrown just two incompletions in the last two games and was 24-of-25 for 330 yards and three touchdowns in Georgia’s 52-20 rout of South Carolina.
LIVE BETTING SCENARIO AND BETTING TRENDS
Third-straight home game for Georgia and their toughest test. The Bulldogs are 21-2 straight up at home since 2012 while Alabama coach Nick Saban is 16-4 ATS as an underdog of less than 7 points off a win. But the ‘Tide are 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games and Georgia has been pointing to this game as their key contest this season.
The play of Alabama’s defense makes this live betting scenario a little tricky, but anticipating that Georgia will still have success with their balanced attack and noting that the ‘over’ is 9-3 in Georgia’s last 12 SEC games.
Georgia is scoring over 16 points per game in the second quarter which ranks top-5 in the country while Alabama scores 5-points per game in the first quarter. Perhaps an early lower-scoring start to this game in live betting wagering, but expect Georgia to turn the ‘Tide as the game progresses and answer Alabama in victory.
