College Football ATS Picks - ACC Championship Game Game Preview

2017-NCAAF-AAC-Championship-Game-preview-Tigers-vs-Hurricanes-Odds

The Clemson Tigers don’t have star quarterback Deshaun Watson, but they are one win away from getting back to the College Football Playoff with a new cast of stars. They need to take care of business in the ACC Championship Game against the Miami Hurricanes. Miami looked destined for the College Football Playoff itself but lost a stunner last time out.

Each team has just one loss on the year and Clemson will clinch a spot in the national semifinals with a win. The Hurricanes would need to win the game and get some help but they are a possibility still so this game has a ton on the line for each side.

Both of the team’s losses were by way of big upsets with Clemson falling to Syracuse on October 13th and Miami losing to Pittsburgh last Friday. This matchup features two strong defenses on display and two dual-threat quarterbacks facing off.

This contest in Week 14 of the regular season will go down Saturday, December 2, 2017, at 8 p.m. ET at Bank of America Stadium.

Clemson -9.5

Odds Analysis

While the Hurricanes have been one of the feel-good stories of the season, they will be substantial underdogs in this matchup. Clemson is close to a double-digit favorite and even at that spread the Tigers are getting about 66 percent of the action thus far to cover.

The scoring total is really low for a college football game because each team has so much talent on the defensive side of the ball. The betting public doesn’t think it is low enough as the “under” is the more popular choice, getting 63 percent of the action.

Key Stat

13.6. That’s the number of points per game Clemson is allowing on the season, which is a miniscule figure in a sport where teams are putting up bigger and bigger numbers on the scoreboard each season.

The Tigers are allowing less than 170 yards passing per game, which is really impressive considering they have been ahead in the majority of their games late and their foes have had to pass the ball while trying to rally.

Clemson has only given up an average of 9.0 points per games in their last three wins over Florida State, the Citadel and No. 24 South Carolina.

The Hurricanes are hoping to get a nice performance from Malik Rosier. He has thrown for 2,897 yards with 25 touchdowns against nine interceptions on the season but was benched late in the team’s loss to Pitt last time out.

It wasn’t a very good show of confidence after a strong season, but Rosier will start in this one and hopes to find success against an elite opponent.

Player To Watch

Travis Homer -- Clemson is elite against the pass and it has also done an OK job against the run, but the Tigers are giving up 113.6 yards per game on the ground, so there may be room to maneuver for the Hurricanes. The onus will be on the Miami running back to put together a solid game to give his team a chance at pulling the upset.

Homer has carried the ball 137 times for 861 yards and seven touchdowns on the season. He had accumulated 95 yards or in three consecutive games before registering only 12 yards on seven carries last time out in the loss to the Panthers.

Free ATS Pick

Miami has shocked a lot of people to get near the top of the national rankings, but the loss last time out was a killer. The Hurricanes have a shot at making the college football playoff with a win but it’s not going to happen.

Clemson is the superior team and should come away with this victory, although the Hurricanes are the choice to cover.

College Football Odds: Clemson 27, Miami 18
