College Football ATS Picks - Boise State at No. 20 Washington State Game Preview

College Football ATS Picks – Boise State at No. 20 Washington State

Washington State hopes to be a player in the Pac-12 this year while the Broncos figure to once again be among the cream of the crop in the Mountain West. Even though Boise State is from a smaller conference it has long been a thorn in the side of bigger foes. However, Washington State is a solid team and will enter this matchup as the clear favorite.

The Cougars can really turn some heads if they can easily dispatch Boise State at home.

Kickoff for this regular season Week 2 game is set for Saturday, September 9, 2017, at 10:30 p.m. ET at Martin Stadium.

Washington State -10.5
Over/Under 58.5

Odds Analysis

Washington State is a double-digit favorite and still has the betting public believing in it, as the Cougars have been picked to cover by 54 percent of the early action. The scoring total isn’t too high as both defenses have been strong early, and the “under” is the more popular choice.

Boise State is listed at +317 on the moneyline, which is an intriguing wager based on the Broncos’ past pedigree and ability to hang with Pac-12 foes. The Cougars are -400 favorites, and not surprisingly the majority of the money is on Boise State since the price is so high to bet on Washington State straight up.

Player to Watch

Luke Falk -- The Washington State quarterback is a big reason why the team is already ranked nationally. He threw for 4,468 yards with 38 touchdowns and 11 interceptions a season ago in leading Washington State to a bowl game. Falk has NFL-level talent and will aim to put up big numbers again this year.

Falk was solid in the opener, completing 33-of-39 passes for 311 yards and three touchdowns in a 31-0 rout of Montana State before heading to the bench during mop-up duty.

Boise State presents a much bigger challenge, as the Broncos allowed 13 points last time out and have much more talent than Montana State.

Last Meeting

The Broncos jumped out to a 31-14 lead on Washington State in last season’s meeting and held on for a 31-28 win. Broncos quarterback Brett Rypien threw three interceptions in the contest but a strong ground game helped to overcome that.

Falk threw an incredible 71 passes in the contest, completing 55 of them for 480 yards with four touchdowns and a pick. The Cougars are hoping he doesn’t have to throw that much again, because if he does it means Boise State has once again jumped out to a sizable lead.

The Cougars have a lot of key players back and remember this loss well. They are hoping for some payback at home this time.

Free ATS Pick

Washington State is known nationally as an entertaining air-it-out team but one that has trouble against real competition. Coach Mike Leach is slowly changing that and this is one of the best teams he’s had.

Falk is a difference-maker and the Broncos are going to have a tough time scoring enough to stay in this one. The Cougars lost to Boise State last year and will be able to even the score with a win at home in this one.

The spread, though, is too high as the Broncos should be able to run the ball effectively enough to narrowly pull out a cover.

College Football Odds: Washington State 34, Boise State 27
