College Football ATS Picks - Colorado State at Hawaii Game Preview

Colorado-State-at-Hawaii-(Degen)

The Colorado State Rams took their lumps last week, but there’s no shame in that as they played on the road against No. 1 Alabama. Colorado State will play another road game in Week 5 but this one will be considerably easier when they face off against the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors.

Both teams are 2-2 on the season, but Colorado State has looked decent against tough competition. The Rams will be solid favorites despite being on the road as they aim to start conference play with a victory.

Kickoff for this regular season Week 5 game is set for Saturday, September 30, 2017, at 11:59 p.m. ET at Aloha Stadium.

Odds Analysis

Colorado State is more than a touchdown favorite on the road, which can be a risky wager when a pair of teams from the same conference matchup. Even so, more than 64 percent of the action is on the Rams.

The scoring total is high as the oddsmakers are expecting a shootout, and the bettors aren’t scared off by that number. More than 64 percent of the money is pouring in on the “over.”

The moneyline has pitted Colorado State as a -290 favorite, while Hawaii is an intriguing bet as a +237 underdog. Each side is getting about equal action.

Bounceback Situation

Hawaii totaled 450 yards of offense last time out and played better than Wyoming, but lost 28-21 in overtime when their final drive ended on an interception. The Rainbow Warriors have now lost two straight after dropping the previous game to UCLA and need to bounce back.

Despite the loss to the Cowboys on the road, Hawaii did a fantastic job against Wyoming star quarterback Josh Allen and hopes the defense can step up once again.

Hawaii has a bad taste in his mouth after missing out on a golden opportunity to snatch a road upset, and it will be interesting to see how it responds. The belief here is that the Rainbow Warriors put it all together and come out with an inspired performance.

Player to Watch

John Ursua -- The Hawaii sophomore wide receiver has been phenomenal in the early portion of the season. Ursua has played in three of the team’s four games and has hauled in 30 passes for 453 yards and three touchdowns.

He was outstanding in the season opener, catching 12 passes for 272 yards and a score against Massachusetts. Ursua is on the Biletnikoff Award Watch List for the best wide receiver in the country along with nine other pass-catches throughout college football.

Colorado State is giving up 256 passing yards per game and their focus will be heavily on slowing down Ursua when Hawaii goes to the air on offense.

Free ATS Pick

Colorado State has started off the season nicely, as it even hung around against the top-ranked Crimson Tide through halftime, which is certainly no easy task. The Rams beat Pac-12 opponent Oregon State in blowout fashion in their season opener and stayed close against a talented Colorado team.

Colorado State has looked good thus far on the young season and will aim to keep it up, but this isn’t an easy game. Hawaii was blown out by UCLA but has otherwise been OK. The Rainbow Warriors have a star wide receiver to lean on and the home field advantage.

It’s not easy for teams to take the long flight, and the Rams are coming off a recent trip to Alabama. Take Hawaii to not only cover this spread but win the game outright. Hawaii on the moneyline is a good bet,a and the “over” is the right call in what should be an entertaining matchup.

College Football Odds: Hawaii 38, Colorado State 35
