College Football ATS Picks - Georgia at Georgia Tech Game Preview

Georgia-at-Georgia-Tech

The Georgia Bulldogs are having their best season in a decade and still control their destiny for a spot in the College Football Playoff. Georgia locked up the SEC East a couple weeks ago when it beat South Carolina and will be playing in the SEC Championship Game for the first time in five years. The Bulldogs are already preparing for the winner of the Iron Bowl, you can be sure, but must be sure not to sleep on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Georgia Tech has won two of the last three meetings in the rivalry dubbed Clean, Old Fashioned Hate, and the last four games have been decided by one score.

Watch this regular season Week 13 matchup live on Saturday, November 25, 2017, at 12 p.m. ET at Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. This game will be broadcast on ABC.

Odds Analysis

It’s been a disappointing season for Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets should have defeated both Tennessee and Miami, but dropped both games due to some bad luck and bad defense late and now might not make a bowl. Georgia Tech is 5-5 this season and will likely need this win to go somewhere in December.

The Yellow Jackets starter the season with six straight covers, but have failed to cover in three of their last four because of some defensive woes. Over is 4-1 in their last five games.

Georgia has been great on defense all season long, with the exception of its performance against Auburn two weeks ago. Under cashed in each of the Bulldogs first five games, but lately the over has taken precedence. Five of their last six games have finished over the total.

Matchup to Watch

Georgia Tech’s front seven can expect a busy day. All Georgia does is run the ball. The Bulldogs are averaging less than 19 attempts a game through the air, but have run the ball an average of 46 times per game this year. That’s a pretty large disparity for a non-option team, but shows how Kirby Smart is trying to turn Georgia into another Alabama.

Nick Chubb is already over 1,000 yards, but the Bulldogs have a bevy of talented backs that they will use in this game. Sony Michel and D’Andre Swift will also see significant action as the Bulldogs try to wear down the Yellow Jackets’ front.

The Ramblin’ Wreck defense has allowed 4.5 yards per carry this season, but did have good performances against Miami and Virginia Tech.

Last Meeting

Georgia fans are still reeling after last year’s result in this series. The Bulldogs took a 13-point lead into the fourth quarter and seemingly had the game all sewn up. Chubb and Michel were gashing the Yellow Jackets defense, and Georgia could just rely on its ground game and defense to close out the victory.

However, that failed to happen because of Justin Thomas. Thomas was more than your typical option quarterback. He was actually a competent passer, and it was his arm that brought Georgia Tech back. Thomas led the Yellow Jackets down the field for touchdowns in the fourth quarter and helped Georgia Tech pull off the stunning upset.

Unfortunately, Thomas is no longer the starter and he is already missed. TaQuon Marshall isn’t near the passer that Thomas was, completing just 38 percent of his passes, and that makes this offense more one-dimensional.

Free ATS Pick

This has the feel of a game where Georgia takes out some frustration. The Bulldogs are much better than they have been in years past and are well-rounded on both sides of the ball. They will have more options than the Yellow Jackets on both ends and that will give Georgia a comfortable victory.
