College Football ATS Picks - Houston Cougars at South Florida Bulls Game Preview

Houston-at-South-Florida

South Florida is tied with UCF atop the American East standings and wants to stay there. An upset win would help Houston stay in the thick of things in the American West, but a loss would make it tough to rally moving forward.

The Bulls have one of the most explosive offenses in college football and will aim to flex their muscles in this one.

This contest in Week 9 of the regular season will go down Saturday, October 28, 2017, at 3:45 p.m. ET at Raymond James Stadium.

Odds Analysis

South Florida is a heavy favorite but the betting public still thinks the spread is too low as more than 88 percent of the action is on the Bulls to cover. The scoring total expects the Houston defense to put up a fight in this one as the Bulls usually score more than what is projected.

The Cougars are the +344 underdog on the moneyline while South Florida is listed as the -440 favorite.

Player To Watch

Kyle Postma -- Houston switched quarterbacks a few weeks ago, inserting Postma in place of the struggling Kyle Allen. The Cougars have gone 2-2 with Postma under center but the offense hasn’t been great and the team has lost two straight games.

Postma is 109-of-162 passing this season for 1,120 yards with five touchdowns but six interceptions. He has been much too interception-prone and has to take care of the ball in this one.

South Florida has an impressive defense and will score points, so Houston is going to need to keep up. If Postma struggles that will end the Cougars’ chances of pulling the upset.

Key Stat

41.6. That’s the number of points per game South Florida is averaging this season, which is among the elite teams in the country. The Bulls have been a dominant rushing team, racking up more than 300 yards per game on the ground.

Darius Tice leads the way with 103 carries for 634 yards and nine touchdowns. Quarterback Quinton Flowers is a dual threat who can beat teams with his legs but has really come on throwing the ball. Flowers has thrown for 1,245 yards this season with 12 touchdowns and three interceptions.

Houston must gear up to stop the run but it can’t forget about Flowers’ job to succeed through the air. South Florida has surprised many with its dominant offensive showing and will look to keep it up against a Houston team that is allowing only 24.0 points per game this year.

Free ATS Pick

South Florida has been really impressive on both sides of the ball this season. Houston is going to have a really tough time defending the Bulls’ strong rushing attack.

The Cougars have some talent and if this game was at home they would have a chance to pull out the win. That is must harder on the road and South Florida should remain undefeated with the win. The spread is a bit too low in this one as the Bulls are clearly the more talented team.

Take the Bulls to win this game and get the cover, while the “over” is the easy call on the scoring total. Houston has enough firepower on offense to put some points up on the scoreboard, and South Florida will certainly score plenty of its own.

College Football Odds: South Florida 37, Houston 24
