College Football ATS Picks - SEC Championship Game Game Preview

2017-NCAAF-SEC-Championship-Game-preview-Bet-Online

The Auburn Tigers are the hottest team in the country, and they are one win away from not only the most impressive four-game stretch of the season, but a College Football Playoff berth.

Auburn has knocked off then-No. 1 Georgia and then-No. 1 Alabama within their past four games to catapult itself back into the national championship conversation. The Tigers will have to knock off the Georgia Bulldogs once again in the SEC Championship game in order to be considered for the national semifinals.

Georgia is also among the best teams in the country and may be able to sneak into the College Football Playoff by exacting a measure of revenge in this showdown. The stakes don’t get much bigger than this when two of the best teams in the nation face off in the title game of the best conference in America.

This contest in Week 14 of the regular season will go down Saturday, December 2, 2017, at 4 p.m. ET at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Odds Analysis

Auburn is a slight favorite and the betting public is aboard their bandwagon as more than 61 percent of the money is on the Tigers to cover. The scoring total is low for a college football game in any other conference but this is standard fare for the rugged SEC.

Even though not many points are expected, the “under” is still the overwhelmingly more common choice with more than 70 percent of the action thinking these teams will score less than the oddsmakers have pegged.

Last Meeting

Auburn looked like an unlikely College Football Playoff candidate a few games ago as it readied to face off against Georgia with Alabama still looming later. The Tigers had no problem beating both, starting with a 40-17 shellacking of the then-undefeated Bulldogs.

Kerryon Johnson ran for 167 yards and caught a 55-yard touchdown pass in the easy victory. Georgia entered the game as one of the most dominant rushing attacks in the nation behind Sony Michel and Nick Chubb but was held to under 50 yards.

Auburn trailed after the first quarter but dominated the second and the third to take control and cruised to the win. The Tigers followed that up with a win over Louisiana-Monroe and then shocked the college football world by knocking off heavyweight Alabama last time out.

It has been a quick ascension for the Tigers, who seemed out of the national title hunt after losing to LSU and Clemson earlier in the year.

Key Stat

13.8. That’s the number of points per game the Georgia defense is allowing this season, so it was a shock when Auburn rolled up so many points in the first matchup. The unit must rebound in this one and there is a good chance it does.

The Bulldogs are only giving up 159 yards through the air and 112 yards on the ground per game. Auburn quarterback Jarrett Stidham got the best of Georgia last time out but there is enough talent on defense for the Bulldogs to shut him down.

Free ATS Pick

Kerryon Johnson is banged up but expected to play, which is critical for Auburn. Even if he does, the choice in this one is Georgia. The Tigers are undoubtedly playing great ball right now but it’s really hard to keep playing at this high of a level in three huge showdowns.

The Bulldogs are looking for revenge and will get it. Georgia will be the one making a push for the College Football Playoff by claiming the slight upset in the SEC Championship Game. The “under” is the choice as this is going to be a rugged defensive battle between a pair of smashmouth teams.
