Notable Line Movement
Southern Mississippi ( -3.5 ) vs. Louisiana Lafayette
The argument could certainly be there for Louisiana Lafayette being the least talented of all of the bowl teams this year, and the oddsmakers are onboard with that sentiment. Southern Miss has gone from -2 to -3.5, and part of the reason for that very well could be the fact that the Golden Eagles are promising to travel well to the Superdome. Part of the problem in recent years betting against the Cajuns in a game they've won four times in the past is the fact that they've always had a supreme home field advantage playing in New Orleans. Sure, they'll have a bunch of fans at this one, but USM should travel well too, and that could level the playing field a whole bunch.
Louisiana Tech ( -3.5 ) vs. Navy
The Armed Forces Bowl quietly opened up as a pick 'em before Navy lost to Army over the weekend, and that, as you would expect, started a slew of betting on the Techsters. The Bulldogs are now all the way up to -3.5, and they expectation is there that they're going to flatten the Middies with Will Worth out for the rest of the season. Navy was awful against Army, particularly when backup quarterback Zach Abey was forced to throw the ball; he's now been picked off four times on just 23 passing attempts in limited action this year.
Pittsburgh ( -5.5 ) vs. Northwestern
It's hard to say that we didn't see this coming. Northwestern was shellacked last year in the Outback Bowl by Tennessee, and now, it has to play against what is largely perceived to be one of the most underrated teams in America. The Panthers are the only team in America to have beaten a pair of Power Five winning teams this season from their victories over Pitt and Clemson, and though they did punt some games this season, they also largely took care of the business that needed to be tended to down the stretch. Toss in the emotional factor with James Conner playing in his final collegiate game, and you've got the makings here for bettors lining up to get a piece of the Panthers for the next two weeks.
