Baylor bounced back big off their first loss of the season to Oklahoma, as the Bears thrashed previously unbeaten Oklahoma State 45-35 last week.
Now in back-to-back road games, I don’t foresee any letdown occurring against the deficient defense of TCU, who extended great energy in its rally that came up short at Oklahoma last week.
The college football odds at BookMaker.eu will be posted as soon as they are available for this tilt.
ODDS ANALYSIS
No line is yet posted with the status of TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin to be determined. He missed last week’s game at Oklahoma with an injured ankle.
Once Boykin is announced as the starter, Baylor will likely be a slight favorite. TCU will also play without star wide receiver Josh Doctson, who missed last week’s game and is out for the remainder of the season with a wrist injury.
Doctson is the Big 12’s leading receiver this season with over 1,300 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns.
KEY MISMATCH
Baylor’s potent offense versus TCU’s porous defense.
Baylor’s up tempo offense is the best in the Big 12 averaging 591 yards per game in conference play. The balance is evident with the league’s No. 1 rush offense at 265 yards per game along with an explosive pass attack at 335 yards per game and league-high 26 touchdown passes through seven conference games.
Both teams run over 80 plays per game to rank top 15 in the country, but the difference in this match-up is defense along with injuries to key TCU players.
The Frogs defense has improved in the second half of the season and the Frogs play on third down has been much better as they now lead the league allowing less than 30 percent on third down conversions. But against the Bear’s explosive spread and up-tempo offense, the Frogs will be exposed more and the Bears are likely to reach at least 230 rushing yards.
Their passing game has also succeeded with replacement quarterback Jarrett Stidham posting a 12-to-2 TD:INT ratio and over 11.0 yards per pass his last three games as starter.
KEY STAT
8 – the Bears offensive line has allowed the fewest sacks in the Big 12 with eight in seven games.
BETTING ANGLE
The Bears are 4-1 ATS versus a team with a winning record and 8-1 ATS in their last nine games after accumulating more than 450 yards their previous game.
The Frogs are 12-2 ATS in their last 14 home games.
The Bears are 1-7 ATS in the last eight meetings and the over has cashed each of the last four times these in-state rivals locked horns.
ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION
TCU’s rally at Oklahoma came up just short as coach Patterson decided to go for the win but the Frogs failed on the 2-point conversion in the final minute of a 30-29 Sooners win.
Boykin will likely return, but Bram Kohlhausen could play after rallying TCU last week replacing the ineffective Foster Sawyer. Regardless, the Frogs won’t be able to match the Bears firepower and despite a touchdown adjustment in price from the line posted over the summer, we’ll back the Bears to pull out the road win.
Baylor 41, TCU 31
