College Football Betting Online: After consecutive 7-6 seasons to start Steve Addazio’s time in Chestnut Hill, injuries and bad luck combined to make a nightmare 2015 season. The Eagles went just 3-9 last season and only managed one FBS win, against Northern Illinois, while going 0-8 in conference play. Now Addazio and Boston College will look to right the ship and hopefully, get his first ever bowl victory.

2015 BOSTON COLLEGE EAGLES SEASON REVIEW

Disaster struck early in the season. Following two blowout wins over FCS schools, Boston College played Florida State in its first real test of the season and failed to move the ball at all, falling 14-0. Most importantly, in the fourth quarter, Darius Wade broke his ankle and any hope of finding a competent quarterback behind him was lost as he was gone for the remainder of the season. To make matters worse, in the game following, Boston College also lost its starting running back Jon Hilliman for the rest of the year.

Following the injuries, the story of the season became just how inept the offense was. No quarterback cracked the 500 yard mark passing for Boston College, an almost impossible feat for a non-triple option team, and no running back carried the ball for more than 500 yards either. The Eagles were woefully bad offensively last season and can’t get any worse there.

The defense was rock solid however, and it’s a shame that it played so well when the offense was so bad. Boston College’s defense only allowed 20 points or more in four games last season and only allowed more than 26 points in a game once. The Eagles were fourth in the country in points allowed per game, 15.2 PAG, and defenses managed just 2.4 yards per carry against them last season.

WHAT CHANGED

The quarterback situation should be much better this year. Darius Wade is back from injury and the Eagles added Patrick Towles as a graduate transfer from Kentucky. Towles threw as many touchdowns as interceptions during his time at Kentucky, but won’t be asked to take as many chances as he did when he was trying to come from behind in SEC play.

Unfortunately, many of the leaders of last year’s stellar defensive unit won’t be returning in 2016 for BC. Steven Daniels was the team’s leading tackler and also had 10 tackles for loss and six sacks, but he is now in the NFL. Mehdi Abdesmad and Connor Wujciak combined for 16 tackles for loss last season and their production must be replaced as well. Also, defensive coordinator Don Brown left to take the same job at Michigan this season and Jim Reid will be the new DC.

2016 BOSTON COLLEGE EAGLES SEASON PREVIEW

The Eagles should be much better offensively in 2016. Wade and Hilliman have looked fine in the offseason while recovering from injury and the team should be able to throw the ball again with Towles taking snap. He doesn’t present the running threat that Wade does, but he has a strong arm and can make good reads. Receivers Thadd Smith and Charlie Callinan were under-utilized, but shouldn’t be any longer.

There’s no way the defense can put up the numbers it did last season. The statistics themselves are a little skewed because teams knew Boston College’s offense couldn’t move the ball and thus didn’t take many risks when they had the ball. The defense should still be pretty solid, especially with Matt Milano in the middle. Milano has great instincts and can fill holes as well as any linebacker in the conference.

BC only has six home games after giving one up to face Georgia Tech in Dublin for the season opener, but has a very manageable non-conference schedule. Assuming that the Eagles can stay healthy and that Towles is a competent quarterback, this team should be able to make a bowl at the very least and could end up being the third best team in the conference.
