College Football Odds - Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at Miami Hurricanes Game Preview

Georgia-Tech-at-Miami-Picks

Miami returns to Coral Gables for their last home game following another penalty-filled and embarrassing blowout loss at North Carolina. But Georgia Tech has been most embarrassing this season with just 3-wins following an 11-win campaign a year ago.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets +1

Miami Hurricanes -1

Over/Under 56.5

ODDS ANALYSIS

The favorite has flip-flopped as Georgia Tech is now a 2-point road favorite and the total has been bet down a point to 55.5.

KEY MISMATCH

The Georgia Tech option attack versus Miami’s run defense.

The Hurricanes rush defense is last in the ACC allowing 238 rushing yards per game at 5.7 yards per rush against ACC foes. That’s an issue against the Yellow Jackets option attack that averages 205 rushing yards per game.

Justin Thomas is a dual-threat speedster at quarterback, but rotating young lineman and running backs have had to fill in with injuries. Thomas and the ‘Jackets ground game will get their share of yards. But the Georgia Tech defense can’t be counted on having allowed at least 27 points in all four road games.

KEY STAT

95 – Miami leads the NCAA with 95 penalties; 14 more than the next closest team in the ACC.

23 – Georgia Tech is scoring 23 points per game in ACC play and the Yellow Jackets averaged 38 points per game last season.

7 – Georgia Tech has just seven sacks in seven league games.

BETTING ANGLE

Georgia Tech is 1-6 ATS in its last seven games and 0-4 ATS in its last four road games.

Miami is 2-5 ATS in its last seven home games and 1-6 ATS versus a team with a losing record.

The under is 4-1 in the Yellow Jackets last five road games and 10-4 in the Hurricanes last 14 conference games.

The favorite is 6-1 ATS in the last seven meetings.

ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION

Both these teams have had disappointing seasons but especially Georgia Tech, who was the media favorite by margin to win the ACC Coastal division following 11 wins last year. But the Yellow Jackets have been a huge disappointment with 3 wins and sit in last place in the Coastal division at 1-6.

Special teams have also been an issue and the Yellow Jackets have the worst punting game in the league. Paul Johnson can clearly coach, but his team’s struggles cannot be overlooked and they’re in a negative schedule situation this week.

Georgia Tech has had chances to beat Notre Dame, Duke, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Virginia and Virginia Tech in the closing minutes but came up short each time. They find ways to lose rather than win this season, and no doubt massive injuries and the multitude of mistakes have been a problem.

Georgia Tech has been forced to play 10 true freshman and 13 red shirt freshman, and we won’t count on their defense to slow Kaaya and the ‘Canes enough this week.

Miami has scored just seven touchdowns in six league games and has the ACC’s worst rushing attack with 533 yards in conference play. But quarterback Brad Kaaya is No. 2 in the league with over 2,400 passing yards. The Hurricanes will play hard down the stretch for their seniors and replacement coach Larry Scott.

Miami is 6-4 and while buried at North Carolina last week, the Hurricanes should respond in their final home game playing with redemption for a 28-17 loss at Georgia Tech last season as a similar sized underdog.

Miami 27, Georgia Tech 24
