College Football Betting Online: No team bottomed out like Georgia Tech in 2015. After heading to a New Year’s Six bowl and an 11-3 record in 2014, the Yellow Jackets brought a Top 15 preseason ranking into last season. However, things unraveled quickly and Georgia Tech managed just three wins last season in what was by far Paul Johnson’s worst season.

2015 GEORGIA TECH YELLOW JACKETS SEASON REVIEW
Georgia Tech started last season just like it finished 2014. The Yellow Jackets pasted Alcorn State and Tulane by a combined score of 134-16 and pundits were discussing the possibility of Georgia Tech making a serious run at the playoff if it could knock off Notre Dame. Georgia Tech lost that game and that started a tailspin that saw the Yellow Jackets win just one of their last 10 games.
Justin Thomas took a major step back last season. He was seen to be the first Tech quarterback in quite some time that could not only run the option, but throw the ball as well. However, he didn’t showcase this ability at all and completed just 41.7 percent of his passes on the season. Thomas limited the interceptions, but struggled to hit open receivers and that doomed the Yellow Jackets.
Paul Johnson installed the only triple option attack among Power Five teams and running the ball should be a specialty. Last season however, the Jackets ran for less yards than they ever had running his system. Injuries had something to do with it as two running backs and a few of their offensive linemen suffered season ending injuries. That as well as team’s focusing on stopping the triple option in the offseason, vastly limited Georgia Tech’s numbers.
WHAT CHANGED
The bad news for Georgia Tech is that most of its offensive line from last season is gone. A combined 80 starts have departed the team and that’s dangerous for a team that is so heavily reliant on offensive linemen getting downfield to block. The new offensive line doesn’t get much of a chance to gel either, as three of the first four games are against some of the better defensive lines from last year, Boston College, Vanderbilt, and Clemson.
Defensively, the Yellow Jackets lose a lot as well. Three of the four leading tacklers from 2015 are gone and the back seven must replace five of its seven starters. Georgia Tech’s secondary put up better numbers than seasons past in 2015, but that was largely the result of an ineffective ground game and the Jackets still need to fix the underlying issues.
2016 GEORGIA TECH YELLOW JACKETS SEASON PREVIEW
Thomas has to be better at making decisions than he was last season. Although there were injuries, he only managed 3.4 yards per carry and that’s not good enough for a quarterback that is supposed to make the right reads. After a long offseason to work on it, he should be raring to get back out there.
The Yellow Jackets defense failed to get pressure on opposing quarterbacks last year and this needs to change as well. Georgia Tech got to the opposing quarterback just 14 times and that led to opponents being able to play keep away with the team and got it out of bad passing situations.
The schedule isn’t as tough as it could be. Georgia Tech doesn’t travel for a true road game until October 8 and the Jackets only play three true road games in conference. A stretch which includes Clemson, Miami, and Pittsburgh will likely determine the fate of Georgia Tech this season, but the Jackets should be able to get back to bowl eligibility.
