College Football Odds: LSU Tigers Season Win Total

The 2016 season is setting up as a make or break year for coach Les Miles and his staff. The Mad Hatter doesn’t have a contract extension, leaving many to believe LSU’s athletic director is waiting to see how the Tigers fair on the field before making any kind of long-term commitment. For the first time since 2011, though, the early exit of talent was minimal in Baton Rouge, meaning Miles could have the last laugh.

2015 LSU TIGERS SEASON REVIEW

Every season is loaded with highs and lows, but LSU took that to the extreme in 2015. Between weather cancellations, Heisman chases, firing rumors, strong starts and late fades, the Tigers kept their fans on the edge of their seats.

The Tigers were 7-0 heading into their showdown at Alabama in early November. But the 30-16 loss to the Tide was a blow to LSU’s hopes of winning the SEC East and started the team on a three-game slide that nearly cost Miles his job. LSU ended the regular season by snapping its skid with a 19-7 win over Texas AM. Following that game, several players hoisted Miles onto their shoulders, carrying him off the field.

Nobody knew if that was Miles’ last game at Tiger Stadium, but LSU’s players and fans let the coach know where he stood with them, just in case. Miles was given a reprieve and his club went out and whacked Texas Tech 56-27 in the Advocare Bowl behind 212 rushing yards from Leonard Fournette, his fourth game with 200 or more.

WHAT CHANGED

LSU is going to be good enough to get to the College Football Playoff and play for the national title. For a team coming off a disappointing season, and after all the drama, winning the SEC championship would be fantastic. There’s no real excuse for it not to happen considering all the returning talent and experience.

For the most part, LSU is stocked and ready to go in 2016. A few questions remain on the offensive line, but everywhere else on the field the Tigers are looking good. Miles did not pull the trigger on getting rid of Cam Cameron in the offseason. He put his faith in his offensive coordinator. Can Cameron repay the favor?

2016 LSU TIGERS SEASON PREVIEW

LSU might have the best player in college football running the ball, but it’s going to have a passing element, too. Cameron knows how to get an aerial attack going and he’s got the receivers to do it. The big difference is experience at quarterback with Brandon Harris having been through the battles.

Harris is the man under center and there’s no looking over his shoulder now that Anthony Jennings has transferred. Harris will be the difference between a good LSU offense and a great one. He doesn’t have to carry the offense, but he will have pull out at least one huge win.

Of course the offense will work around Fournette, who led the nation in rushing last season with an average of 162.8 yards per game. He finished with school records of 1,953 yards rushing and 22 touchdowns. But he might not have to carry as much of the load if the passing game does its part.

The Tigers are loaded with potential all-star and NFL defenders. Though the pass defense was just okay last season, it should be a strength this year with all the returning talent and experience. With 17 returning starters the Tigers are one of the most experienced teams in the country let alone the SEC. They get ‘Bama at home but have to travel to Florida and Auburn, never easy places to play. There’s little room for error to reach double figures, not an easy bet in the SEC West.
