Miami has been in the ACC since 2004 and despite many believing that the Hurricanes would come to dominate the conference, that has failed to happen. The Hurricanes have yet to crack 10 wins since joining the ACC and also have been unable to even make the conference title game. The Canes dumped Al Golden and brought in Mark Richt this offseason to try to finally remedy that.

2015 MIAMI HURRICANES SEASON REVIEW
A 58-0 blowout loss to Clemson spelled the end for Al Golden at Miami. The Hurricanes were completely outclassed in the game, getting outgained by the Tigers by over 400 yards. That and yet another loss to rival Florida State led to the boosters finally saying enough is enough with the Al Golden era despite marginal success.
Brad Kaaya was a bright spot for Miami last season and was one of the top quarterbacks in the ACC. Despite an injury that slowed him midway through the season, he still completed 61 percent of his passes for 3238 yards and had a TD to INT ratio of over three to one. Kaaya was great at limiting turnovers and never had a game with more than one turnover, keeping the Hurricanes offense in games throughout the season.
The Hurricanes defense was a long ways away from the Miami of old that used to impose its will on teams defensively. Miami allowed over 400 yards and 28 PPG and failed to hold any FBS opponent to under 20 points. Artie Burns was a bright spot with six interceptions and became a first round pick, but the defense was poor apart from him.
WHAT CHANGED
The most important change happened up top with Richt replacing Golden. Richt was unceremoniously dumped by Georgia after failing to meet lofty expectations and it was a coup when Miami was able to land him. He instantly becomes one of the top coaches in the conference and injects enthusiasm into a program that has failed to attract much fan support over the last decade.
Miami’s defense loses its two best players from last season in Burns and safety Deon Bush. The two were among the best defensive backs in the ACC and Burns was a shutdown corner with length while Bush was a hard hitting safety that could punish receivers that crossed into his lane.
2016 MIAMI HURRICANES SEASON PREVIEW
Kaaya would be the best quarterback in the conference this season if not for Deshaun Watson at Clemson. Kaaya is already being touted as a future first-rounder and is a prototypical passer that likes to stay in the pocket and make reads. He has a great arm and the ability to make defenses pay provided he has time and pairing him with Richt will make him even better.
The Hurricanes have some quality help for Kaaya in Stacy Coley and Joseph Yearby. Coley is a supremely talented receiver who finally started to scratch the surface of his potential last season, while Yearby is a shifty back that can make people miss at the second level.
The defense should improve under new coordinator Manny Diaz. He may have disappointed at Texas, but Diaz led a resurgence in the defensive fortunes of Mississippi State and Louisiana Tech and is a good hire.
Miami has six road games this season, including an awfully weird match-up against Appalachian State, but faces its toughest competition for the ACC Costal title at home. The schedule doesn’t space out Miami’s most important games, October is brutal with Florida State, North Carolina, Virginia Tech, and Notre Dame in consecutive weeks, but the Hurricanes should be able to win eight games and compete for a division crown.
