College Football Odds - Mississippi State Bulldogs at Arkansas Razorbacks Game Preview

2015-Mississippi-State-at-Arkansas-Betting-Odds

The Arkansas Razorbacks have suddenly put themselves back in the chase in the SEC West this year after upsetting Ole Miss and LSU on the road in successive weeks.

Now, in a game which they figured to be dogs in just a couple weeks ago, they're expected to beat the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

ODDS ANALYSIS

As we mentioned before, the Hogs never should've had a shot to stick around in the SEC West, and all of a sudden, they've got two home games left to finish up the year at 6-2 in the SEC with a shot, albeit a small one, to win the division.

They're set at -3.5 against a Mississippi State team which has also overachieved just a bit. The total has been bet up to 56.5 from the opener.

KEY MISMATCH

We're guilty of thinking the Razorbacks were dead when they lost Rawleigh Williams III for the season with a neck injury a few weeks ago.

Instead, Alex Collins has taken over.

In his last four games, Collins has averaged 18.5 carries, 131.8 yards and 2.0 touchdowns per game on the ground. He’s averaged over six yards per carry in each of these last three games, and he's doing so against some awfully good teams.

Mississippi State just allowed Derrick Henry to rush for 204 yards and two scores last week. Sure, Collins isn't Henry, but the Bulldogs could still be in a lot of trouble.

KEY STAT

324.5 – The number of passing yards per game Dak Prescott has averaged in his last four games. He's really coming on strong in this, his senior year, and he has been incredibly efficient with the ball in spite of the fact that he just doesn't have the same weapons around him that he had a season ago. Prescott has thrown for 2,651 yards and 18 TDs against just two picks on 343 pass attempts.

BETTING ANGLE

The under is 9-1 in Mississippi State's last 10 SEC games dating back to last season. It's going to be tough to keep this from going over, though. The Razorbacks have scored at least 31 points in four consecutive games, and though that isn't necessarily a damning stat for the over if it happens again, it's a good indication that an over is entirely possible.

ANALYSIS AND ODDS PREDICTION

There's a point that Arkansas is going to be overrated, and we think we've hit that point. Sure, MSU was beaten by Arkansas last week, but who hasn't been smashed by the Crimson Tide of late?

Prescott has been playing as well as any quarterback in the SEC, and if he keeps control of the football, there's a good chance for the Bulldogs to at least stick around in this game, if not win it.

What we're not sold on here with the Razorbacks is their defense. Sure, they only allowed 14 points last week to LSU, but the Tigers had reason to look awfully lackluster. Ole Miss, Auburn and even Tennessee Martin have had some success against this unit. If MSU gets into the 30s in this game, we figure it will walk away with a win.
