College Football Odds - Wake Forest Demon Deacons at Clemson Tigers Game Preview

2015-Wake-Forest-at-Clemson-Betting-Odds

The No. 1 team in the nation, the Clemson Tigers weren't at their best against Syracuse last week, but that was to be expected after the emotional win over Florida State. It should be back to business at home against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in what will be the swan song for a team which should get a huge salute from the home crowd in the finale at Clemson Memorial Stadium.

ODDS ANALYSIS

There's no doubt that Clemson is going to win this game against an overmatched Wake Forest side, especially on Senior Day. The Tigers are laying a whole boatload of points at -29 though, which makes the spread a far more interesting proposition than who will prove to be victorious.

The total is insinuating that the Demon Deacons aren't expected to score a heck of a lot. The number to beat is now situated at 48 after being bet down a point.

KEY MISMATCH

The Clemson defense is just awesome, allowing 291.4 yards per game. Sure, the unit gave up some points last week against Syracuse, but even in the 37-27 win, the Tigers were +248 in total yards.

The Orange went just 3-for-13 on third down, and we can't see Wake Forest doing much better than that. The Deacs have the worst offense in the conference for our money, averaging 340.5 yards and 17.5 points per game. They're also averaging just 4.8 yards per play and 3.1 yards per carry. The latter really puts a lot of pressure on John Wolford and Kendall Hinton, neither of which are fantastic passers.

KEY STAT

34.2 – Wake Forest's third down conversion percentage this year. The Tigers do a fantastic job when they get their foes down into third and long, especially here at home. We just don’t see the Tigers allowing the Deacs to do much of anything in third down situations in this game, so that third down conversion percentage, which ranks No. 110 in America, likely won't improve.

BETTING ANGLE

The over is 5-1 in Clemson's last six games overall. The only time that it didn't score at least 34 points since beating Notre Dame was against Florida State and that fantastic defense.

It's highly unlikely that the Tigers get held even in the 30s in this game unless Wake Forest comes up with one of its best defensive efforts of the season.

ANALYSIS AND ODDS PREDICTION

The Demon Deacons might've covered these last two games against Louisville and Notre Dame as double digit underdogs, but we don't see it in this one.

Deshaun Watson is quietly completing over 70 percent of his passes with 23 TDs against eight picks this year, while he also has just under 600 rushing yards to boot. Furthermore, Wayne Gallman has had some huge plays on the ground and is already over 1,000 receiving yards.

In the end, there are too many weapons here for the Tigers, and we'd be surprised if they aren't up by at least three touchdowns at the break and at least five by the time this one is said and done with.
