College Football Week 1 Odds Report, Line Movement

Week-1-Odds-Movement-Sept3

Week 1 of the college football season is always the screwiest for line movement. Parlay the fact that no one really knows what we are getting yet out of any of these teams since they haven't been on the field with the fact that odds are posted weeks in advance instead of just six days before kickoff, and you've got the recipe for a lot of line movement.

Below, take a look at some of the biggest movers and shakers of the opening week of the college football season.

Oklahoma State at Central Michigan, Thursday 7:00 p.m. ET

Opening College Football Odds: Oklahoma State -19
Current College Football Odds: Oklahoma State -23.5

The Cowboys fell apart at times last season, but many think they are contenders in 2015 thanks to the fact that they are a lot more experienced not. Mason Rudolph looked like the real deal when he came in to play at the end of the season, and though that wasn't a great move for the program considering the fact they were planning to redshirt him, that's good news for bettors. Remember that Rudolph generated the big upset of Oklahoma and a Cactus Bowl win over Washington, so blasting Central Michigan, even playing at Kelly/Shorts Stadium shouldn't be a big deal.

Western Kentucky at Vanderbilt, Thursday 8:00 p.m. ET

Opening College Football Odds: Western Kentucky +2.5
Current College Football Odds: Western Kentucky -3

A Sun Belt team favored on the road against an SEC team. Uh-oh. You know where this is going. The Hilltoppers aren't your average Sun Belt team, though. They hung 49 on Central Michigan in the Bahamas Bowl last year and 67 against Marshall the week before to end the Thundering Herd's undefeated season. Both Brandon Doughty and Leon Allen are back, and no duo in college football history has had more passing yards and rushing yards than these two last year in the nation at over 6,300. The move from being a short underdog to a short favorite on the road is quite justified, knowing that the Commodores are still in the process of rebuilding from when James Franklin left for the job at Penn State.

Arizona State vs. Texas A&M, Saturday 7:00 p.m. ET

Opening College Football Odds: Over/Under 66
Current College Football Odds: Over/Under 70

We'll make mention of the fact that this game is essentially a road game for a ranked team against an unranked team, as Texas A&M is more or less hosting this game at NRG Stadium in Houston. However, for our purposes here, we're more concerned about the total, which has risen four points since the open.

Last season, Mike Bercovici came under center and replaced Taylor Kelly incredibly effectively, proving that the ASU offense is going to be just fine without its three-year starter. Losing Jaelen Strong is going to be the bigger problem, but D.J. Foster has converted to a receiver on a full-time basis to pick up the load largely thanks to a tremendously talented running back corps coming to Tempe this year.

There are high hopes for Kyle Allen at Texas A&M as well, as he threw a total of 13 TD passes in his last four games in 2014. Three of those four went past the total.

Bowling Green vs. Tennessee, Saturday 4:00 p.m. ET

Opening College Football Odds: Over/Under 60
Current College Football Odds: Over/Under 69

The biggest line move of the entire weekend is on the over in the BGSU/UT game. The Falcons can fly up and down the field for sure. They are going to try to run 90-100 plays every single game. Though against Tennessee, they probably won't succeed at that goal, it'll be fun watching them try. After Justin Dobbs and the Vols rolled up 461 yards and 45 points in their bowl game last season, hopes became really high in Knoxville for 2015. This is a legitimate Top 25 team for sure, but with two projected defensive starters (LaDarrell McNeill and Rashaan Gaulden) out for the season thanks to summer injuries, there could be a lot of issues with this defense. The Volunteers are going to have to win games in the 70s all year long, and this might not be an exception.
