College Football Week 12 Odds Report, Line Movement

Week-12-Odds-Movement

There are only a couple weeks left in college football's regular season, and the madness is only just beginning. Line movement often is the first indication that a team might be on upset alert, and after a week where literally half the Top 10 in the CFP rankings lost, anything is possible.

Georgia Southern vs. Georgia, Saturday 7:00 p.m. ET

Opening College Football Odds: Georgia Southern +15.5
Current College Football Odds: Georgia Southern +13.5

The SEC is in for a potentially dangerous week of exposure. There are a ton of teams playing against doormats who should provide easy victories, but this is a game in which the Bulldogs could be in a lot of trouble. Ask Florida what it's like playing against Georgia Southern the week before a rivalry game. For those who don't remember, GSU pulled off the upset of the Gators at the Swamp on the infamous day when two UF offensive linemen were blocking each other. The Dawgs have been a joke for most of this season with no offense, and unlike Will Muschamp who lived to see another year after losing to the Panthers, Mark Richt wouldn't.

Memphis vs. Temple, Saturday 12:00 p.m. ET

Opening College Football Odds: Over/Under 65.5
Current College Football Odds: Over/Under 59

It's not often you see Temple involved in a game in which 60 points are scored, and that's why the total in this one has come screaming down over the course of the last few days. Sure, Memphis has an offense which can put points up on the board against anyone, but for our money, Paxton Lynch and the crew have been underwhelming for the most part in recent losses. This should still be a great game in the AAC, but defense is scheduled to be the name of the game more than the offenses if you listen to this line movement.

Georgia Tech vs. Miami, 12:30 p.m. ET

Opening College Football Odds: Georgia Tech +1
Current College Football Odds: Georgia Tech -2

Two teams going nowhere in life. The Yellow Jackets and Hurricanes have both had brutally disappointing years, though there's a lot more life in G-Tech than there is in Miami. For the most part, Georgia Tech has been an unlucky team, and it is unfortunate to not be going to a bowl game this year. The Canes will live to see December, but it's entirely possible that the only reason for that is the win over Duke which never should've been. The oddsmakers and bettors are on the same page here that, in spite of the fact there are three losses separating these teams, Georgia Tech is the better squad.

Michigan vs. Penn State, Saturday 12:00 p.m. ET

Opening College Football Odds: Michigan -5.5
Current College Football Odds: Michigan -3.5

Sure, this game is really only the appetizer in the Big Ten for Ohio State/Michigan State later in the evening, but this is a big game between traditional Big Ten powers no less. Happy Valley isn't a fun place to go play, and the Wolverines could find that out the hard way. They're as square as could be, opening up at -5.5 and moving down to -3.5 in spite of the fact that over 60 percent of the bets are on their side. There are some heavy hitters who are backing the Nittany Lions in this one.

Purdue vs. Iowa, Saturday 12:00 p.m. ET

Opening College Football Odds: Iowa -19.5
Current College Football Odds: Iowa -22.5

Iowa isn't that traditional powerhouse NCAAF team which has bulled its way to 10-0 by beating down teams. In fact, the club has just one win this year by more than 30 points, and that came against North Texas. Seven of the 10 wins have been decided by two scores or fewer. That's what makes it a tough sell to back the Hawkeyes on Saturday. That said, the public and the sharps are in agreement here that this one isn't going to be close against Purdue. The Boilers might've stuck around with Northwestern last week, but a 48-14 loss at home to Illinois is still weighing heavily on the minds of bettors.
