College Football Week 2 Odds Report, Line Movement

Week-2-Odds-Movement-Sept10

We're not quite at the point of the college football season yet when the heavyweights are regularly colliding, but any week which has a pair of Top 10 teams going against each other is a notable one for bettors. We've got both Michigan State and Oregon putting their playoff hopes on the line on Saturday, and that's just one of the many notable games which has seen a rather large shift in the line on the Week 2 college football odds.

Louisiana Tech vs. Western Kentucky, Thursday 8:00 p.m. ET

Opening College Football Odds: Over/Under 67
Current College Football Odds: Over/Under 61

It isn't often that you see a nationally televised standalone game steaming on the under, but that's exactly what we have here in the La Tech/Western Kentucky game this Thursday. Only the sharpest of bettors will end up playing this one, knowing that all of the focus is going to be on the Patriots and Steelers in the opening NFL game of the season. That said, we've definitely taken notice of this price drop of a full six points since Monday on the total of this game, and you should, too.

Bowling Green vs. Maryland, Saturday 12:00 p.m. ET

Opening College Football Odds: Over/Under 63.5
Current College Football Odds: Over/Under 70

Holy over, Batman! Bowling Green makes all the sense in the world as an over team each and every week. The team played to 89 points in total against Tennessee last week, and that now marks five games since the start of last season which the Falcons played that reached a total of at least 80 points. Maryland, a team which dropped a 50 burger last week on Richmond in its own right, rumbled for 341 yards on the ground, and if it does that again, there's no reason to think that this game is holding the total.

Fresno State vs. Ole Miss, Saturday 3:30 p.m. ET

Opening College Football Odds: Ole Miss -26.5
Current College Football Odds: Ole Miss -30

The Rebels are in a bad spot on the schedule, knowing that they have their annual meeting with Alabama next week, but bettors don't really seem to be that bothered by that fact. This spread has been pushed up far beyond four touchdowns at this point, and there is no turning back. Zach Greenlee and the Fresno State offense could struggle in this one against a defense which, though it will surely struggle at times in SEC play, is still far superior to what it will be up against in this one.

San Diego State vs. California, Saturday 5:00 p.m. ET

Opening College Football Odds: California -7.5
Current College Football Odds: California -14

The Golden Bears are a hot commodity this season. Jared Goff is considered by a select few to be a dark horse Heisman Trophy candidate, and leading his team to 73 points against Grambling in the opener did nothing to hurt that cause. San Diego State should be going backwards just a bit this year, and the talent level on the field in Berkeley should be considered good enough to win this game comfortably. That's why this spread is already up almost a touchdown. Keep in mind that most of the movement came on Monday though, as by Tuesday, this spread was already up to -13.

Oregon vs. Michigan State, Saturday 8:00 p.m. ET

Opening College Football Odds: Michigan State -2.5
Current College Football Odds: Michigan State -4

It's not that 1.5 points is really that big of a move in college football, but considering the fact that this is the game of the year to date and the suddenness of the move, it's worth noting. The Spartans weren't hanging around at -2.5 for long, as by Monday afternoon, they were already up to -4 where they have sat for most of the week. That type of a sudden move in a game like this one without any action going the other way this deep in the week tells us that somebody had this game circled long before the odds were ever posted, and bettors like that tend to be quite sharp.
