Week 3 of the college football season is where the rubber starts to meet the road for a lot of the top teams in America. Yes, many are still playing cupcakes, but non-conference games are about over with, especially in conferences like the Pac-12 and the SEC. The end result pits a lot of big-name programs against each other this Saturday.

Florida State vs. Boston College, Friday 8:00 p.m. ET
Opening College Football Odds: Over/Under 53
Current College Football Odds: Over/Under 47
Did you watch Florida State's offense last week against South Florida? It's incredibly clear that bettors did, as Everett Golson is a far cry from Jameis Winston. The Seminoles are going to put the ball in the gut of Dalvin Cook time and time again this year, and that's going to keep the clock running for the mass majority of the game without interruptions for anything aside from first downs. Boston College isn't exactly known for its great passing game either, as we suspect we'll see more runs up the gut by the conservative Steve Addazio than we are used to seeing from Power 5 teams. The end result is a total which has already dropped by six points and could fall more before Friday's nationally televised game.
Nevada vs. Texas A&M, Saturday 12:00 p.m. ET
Opening College Football Odds: Texas A&M -29
Current College Football Odds: Texas A&M -34
Gig 'em. The Aggies have been really impressive thus far in two home games against Arizona State and Ball State, and it's merely a formality that they will become 3-0 with Nevada coming to College Station on Saturday afternoon for an early kickoff. The Wolf Pack are going to bring that crazy pistol offense to the Lone Star State, but we foresee no problems for a Texas A&M defense which really only needs to hold its foes in the mid-20s to cover spreads like this. Kyle Allen should again have a field day against a team which just allowed 44 last week to a very similarly run Arizona offense. That's why this spread has already jumped up near five full touchdowns.
Georgia Tech vs. Notre Dame, Saturday 3:30 p.m. ET
Opening College Football Odds: Notre Dame -1.5
Current College Football Odds: Georgia Tech -2.5
Are we all overreacting here to the fact that Malik Zaire is out of the lineup for the Irish for the rest of the season? It's entirely possible that DeShone Kizer is every bit as good as Zaire. Remember that everyone thought the sky was falling in South Bend when Everett Golson transferred to Florida State, and Zaire was just fine. The bottom line is that it's the Notre Dame defense which is going to win games this year, just as it did back in 2012 when the team went to the National Championship Game. Georgia Tech is good, but to be favored on the road against a Top 10 team is a bit steep for anyone in America.
Southern Mississippi vs. Texas State, Saturday 7:00 p.m. ET
Opening College Football Odds: Over/Under 60.5
Current College Football Odds: Over/Under 66.5
Texas State's high-octane offense was able to score 16 against a very good Florida State defense two weeks ago on the road, and it followed that up by dropping 63 on Prairie View. Why has this total jumped six points, though? Because the Bobcats have allowed 59 and 24 points in their two games. For the second time in this column, we'll pose this question: Did you watch Florida State's offense last week against South Florida? That unit is a wreck, and it isn't going to score 59 against anyone else in America. Asking Southern Miss to get to 30 in this game seems pedestrian considering the fact that Prairie View just scored 24. When two up-tempo teams like this get together, strange things can happen, and at least if you listen to this line movement, both teams getting into the 50s isn't out of the question in this one.
