Although the best teams in the country are all big favorites this week, there are some very good games between potential contenders a little down the Top 25 rankings. We will figure out quite a bit about the races in the Big 12 and the ACC, while the SEC has one or two intriguing showdowns too.

Louisville at North Carolina State
Opening: Louisville -1
Current: Louisville -3

Early action has been on Lamar Jackson and the Cardinals, although many in the media are calling for North Carolina State to pull off the upset Thursday night in Raleigh.

This looks like a prime spot for an upset at first glance. Louisville’s defense has really struggled against good offenses this season, and NC State’s offense has been extremely efficient. The Wolfpack have been able to control time of possession against each opponent they have faced and that’s big when playing against Lamar Jackson.

Additionally, NC State’s defensive line might be able to manhandle Louisville’s offensive line. The Wolfpack were able to dominate Florida State along the offensive line two weeks ago, and Bradley Chubb is a future first-round pick in the making.

Yet, there are two reasons to really like Louisville in this spot. First, the Cardinals have had ample time to prepare for this game after games against Kent State and Murray State the last two weeks. Next, NC State faced the most annoying team to defend last week in Syracuse. The Orange ran 107 plays against this defense and with a short week of rest, NC State players might have their tongues out by the fourth quarter.

Miami (FL) at Florida State
Opening: Pick ‘Em
Current: Miami (FL) -3

People are abandoning ship with the Seminoles. FSU has not looked good on offense all season and might have the worst offensive line of any team in the ACC. They have been unable to control the line of scrimmage in any of their three games this season and that has meant some of the best running backs in the country haven’t had much room to run.

However, the big question coming into this one is who has Miami beat? The Hurricanes are undefeated, but the best team they have beat is Duke on their way to 3-0.

This series has been very one-sided in recent years with Florida State dominating Miami. This year, there is blood in the water though, and Miami fans are looking to unleash years of frustration in this game.

LSU at Florida
Opening: Florida -4.5
Current: Florida -5.5

Coach O needs a win in a big way. After getting hammered by Mississippi State and losing to Troy on Homecoming, Tigers boosters are already discussing who is going to pony up the cash for Ed Orgeron’s $12 million buyout. His intention to recreate what Dabo Swinney did at Clemson with hiring two great coordinators and taking a step back was wise at the time, but looks bad now that Matt Canada’s offense has failed to take hold in Baton Rouge.

As for Florida, the Gators Jim McElwain is off to the best start of any coach in SEC history. He is now 16-3 in conference play and just gets it done. It may be ugly and not the type of football Gators fans have come to expect, but he wins and has won the last two SEC East titles. The offense still lacks a playmaker at quarterback though and that might eventually hurt them.

West Virginia at TCU
Opening: TCU -12
Current: TCU -12.5

The Horned Frogs are double-digit favorites in the College Gameday Game of the Week. TCU has looked fantastic so far this year and its win over Oklahoma State launched the school into the Top 10 last month. This is the biggest test they have until a road trip to Norman on November 11, and you can be sure Gary Patterson will have the boys ready.

West Virginia has beaten up on three bad teams, but lost against the only good team it played in the season opener. Dana Holgorsen will have something in store for TCU’s defense with a week to prepare, but it feels like TCU might just wax them anyways.
