College Football Week 7 Odds Report, Line Movement

Week-7-Odds-Movement-Oct16

College GameDay probably had a heck of a time deciding where it was going to be spending Week 7. There are just a slew of awesome games on the schedule for Week 7, and some of them have had some mighty interesting line moves as we head closer to the weekend slate.

Michigan State vs. Michigan, Saturday 3:30 p.m. ET

Opening College Football Odds: Michigan -6.5
Current College Football Odds: Michigan -7.5

It's not that this is a huge line movement, but crossing over that crucial '7' is interesting, if nothing else. This is the biggest game of the day, and it's the biggest college football game the state of Michigan has seen in decades. The Wolverines never would've been favored in this game a few weeks ago, but after going on a massive tear in recent weeks, all of a sudden, not only does everyone think they're going to beat the Spartans, but there are legitimate claims to a spot in the College Football Playoff as well. We'll have to see where it goes from here, but there is a ton of action, both of the sharp variety and the square variety on Big Blue on Saturday.

Tulsa vs. East Carolina, Saturday 12:00 p.m. ET

Opening College Football Odds: Over/Under 73
Current College Football Odds: Over/Under 78.5

There has been a bit of an epidemic in recent weeks when it's come to totals in college football. Totals are seemingly getting a bit more polarizing. The ACC seems to be featuring tons of games in the 30s all of a sudden, while games lined in the 80s are becoming the norm, too. We're not sure if this Tulsa/ECU game is going to get there, but there is certainly precedent for this number to rise another point and a half before Saturday. The average Tulsa game is featuring over 1,100 yards and over 70 points. The average East Carolina game? A mere 865 yards and 64 points.

Vanderbilt vs. South Carolina, Saturday 4:00 p.m. ET

Opening College Football Odds: South Carolina -5.5
Current College Football Odds: South Carolina -2.5

Steve Spurrier decided somewhat randomly in the middle of the week that he was going to retire effective immediately, something that sent bettors into a tizzy in a hurry. All of a sudden, everyone wants a piece of the Commodores, sensing that beginning of the end of South Carolina as a legit power in the SEC is here. However, there is a second school of thought which can't be forgotten even though it is contrary to the line movement. Maybe the Gamecocks, who have been a mess of late, band together to get one for the Ol' Ball Coach on his way out the door in Columbia. This will be an interesting line to watch as the rest of the week unfolds.

Oregon State vs. Washington State, Saturday 4:00 p.m. ET

Opening College Football Odds: Over/Under 55.5
Current College Football Odds: Over/Under 62.5

Another game where basically all of the betting has been on the over. History is definitely on the side of over backers. Last year, these two teams combined for 71 points, and the last time they met here in Pullman resulted in 76 points. Asking for nine touchdowns isn't out of the question. Oregon State isn't quite the same team without Mike Riley, though. The Beavers are averaging just 4.7 yards per play, something that we just don't see getting any better in spite of the fact that the Cougs are a mess defensively. What most are remembering is the fact that any game involving Mike Leach has the potential to be a 100-point affair. None have been that way yet this year, but last week's 45-38 win over Oregon sure felt like it would've gotten there had Oregon gotten any reasonable quarterback play whatsoever.
