College Football Week 7 Odds Update

College-Football-Week-7-Opening-Odds-Report

It’s another week of big favorites in college football as Auburn is the only team in the AP Top 10 that isn’t at least a double-digit favorite. This week’s schedule is a little lackluster, so it’s no surprise that College GameDay went to FCS James Madison instead of a bigger school. There are still a lot of intriguing matchups this week, so let’s break down some of the better games on the slate.

Ohio State at Nebraska
Opening: Ohio State -21.5
Current: Ohio State -24

Scott Frost is probably tired of getting calls from Lincoln at this point. Mike Riley is all but fired at the end of the season, but the hits keep coming for the Cornhuskers. This week they are the biggest home underdog they have ever been before and that number continues to rise as gamblers look to fade the Huskers.

Nebraska never stood a chance last week against Wisconsin. The Huskers allowed 353 yards on the ground and the Badgers only attempted 17 passes in an easy 21-point victory. Tanner Lee threw yet another interception too, and still leads the nation in picks with 10 on the season.

Bettors are loving this Ohio State team right now. Although the Buckeyes are just 3-3 ATS on the year, this is the time of the season where they typically turn it on. They trounced Rutgers and Maryland by a combined total of 104 points in their last two games, and the offense has found its stride again after some early season hiccups.

BYU at Mississippi State
Opening: Mississippi State -21
Current: Mississippi State -22.5

BYU’s 12-year streak of making it to a bowl looks set to come to an end. The Cougars have been abysmal on offense this season, thanks to a perfect storm of factors. BYU might have the worst wide receiving corps in the nation and its quarterbacks have been dropping like flies. Any of five quarterbacks might get the start this week against the Bulldogs. BYU has only scored seven offensive touchdowns in six games this season and is currently averaging just 10 PPG against FBS opponents.

Things might be about to get worse for BYU as now they have to play a hungry Mississippi State team coming off of a bye week. Mississippi State is looking to erase the memory of its last few games. The Bulldogs were outscored 80-13 by Georgia and Auburn in consecutive weeks, and now are ready to tear somebody up at home. It might be a long afternoon for the Cougars here.

Washington State at California
Opening: Washington State -13.5
Current: Washington State -15

These were some insanely high scoring games when Sonny Dykes was in charge of Cal, but things might be a little different under new Cal head coach Justin Wilcox. Wilcox is more defensively oriented and will want to try to run the ball against this Washington State defense in order to keep the Cougars offense off of the field. However, the Cougars are allowing just 3.7 yards per carry this season.

Mike Leach has his most complete team since he has taken over at Pullman. He can run the ball effectively in addition to his teams’ usual gaudy numbers through the air. Bettors have already pushed this line over 14 points, and don’t be surprised if action continues to come in on the Cougars.

Coastal Carolina at Arkansas State
Opening: Arkansas State -21
Current: Arkansas State -19

This line has fallen because of continued concerns about the health of Arkansas State’s star quarterback Justice Hansen. Hansen was clearly limited last week against Georgia Southern, but was still able to lead the Red Wolves to a big win with a few timely throws and four forced turnovers from the defense.

Still, he threw four interceptions of his own and completed less than 50 percent of his passes. That’s something Coastal Carolina will look to exploit, as it doesn’t seem likely Hansen will be fully healthy by gametime.
