College Football Week 9 Opening Odds Report

2015-NCAA-Week-9-Opening-Odds-Report

There aren't any real headliner games on the Week 9 college football slate, but that's going to put some bettors in some tough spots. Many of the Top 25 teams in the land are favored by huge margins this week, and that in and of itself is tough to handicap, especially now that we're fully entrenched in conference play.

GAME OF THE WEEK

There is actually only one game featuring a pair of Top 25 teams this week, but we're not all that much for the Temple/Notre Dame game.

Instead, we want to focus on the Thursday nighter between the Pitt Panthers and the North Carolina Tar Heels. This is the fourth straight game in this series in which the point spread is two points or fewer, showing just how close these games between these teams have been.

No, neither Pitt nor UNC will end up in the College Football Playoff, but with Miami on the mend, there are really only three teams left in the ACC Coastal Division race. The loser of this one is very likely going to be stuck with nothing better than the Belk Bowl. The winner will not only hold a spot in the Top 20 in the nation, but it'll be in the driver's seat for the ACC Coastal Division title.

WEEK 9 COLLEGE FOOTBALL ODDS NOTES

-Oregon opened up at a pick 'em against Arizona State, but almost immediately, betting was on the side of the Sun Devils to push them up to -1. The Ducks were underdogs exactly once from the middle of the 2009 season through the start of this year, that coming against Stanford in a game which was won. Now all of sudden, this is back-to-back weeks in which the U of O is a dog as well as the third time this season.

-There's only one team on the docket in Week 9 favored by 30+ points. That team is actually a road squad. Oklahoma is getting the nod by 36.5 against Kansas.

-Only eight of the Top 25 teams are on the road this weekend, and only one of those teams is playing against another ranked squad. Notre Dame is giving 9.5 at undefeated Temple.

-Houston is favored by 13.5 at home against Vanderbilt. The SEC and AAC have already met once in recent weeks. Memphis upset Ole Miss in a game with a similar spread in the opposite direction. Now, the Cougs, who are still sporting a perfect record and a Top 20 ranking, are expected to put down one of the lesser teams in one of the most powerful conferences in America.
