Florida State Seminoles at Wake Forest Demon Deacons betting odds on ESPN2 Saturday

FloridaState-at-WakeForest-Odds28

The Seminoles have gotten rather positive results so far from Everett Golson and the remade Florida State offense, but the defense was the star in their last game, holding Boston College scoreless. Given the recent past, the Seminoles defense is in for another big game against Wake Forest.

ODDS

While on the road, the Seminoles opened as 18-point favorites against the Demon Deacons, but that’s since grown to 19.5-points as Florida State has played quite well through three games while the Demon Deacons are 2-2 and failed to inspire confidence when playing some of the better teams.

Wake Forest will look to snap a three game losing skid ATS on Saturday. Florida State, of course, is no stranger to pointspread struggles after last season, but this year they’ve fared better so far.

Still, FSU checks in just 5-13 ATS in its last 18 games.

KEY MISMATCH

Generally speaking the Wake Forest offense against any other Power 5 conference school’s defense is probably a bit of a mismatch. The Demon Deacons have a ton of turnovers and only a few bright spots.

The ground game, in particular, is a huge mismatch against the Florida State rush defense.

The Seminoles are No. 49 in yards allowed on the ground per game at 140 and have allowed only a single rushing touchdown this year. The Demon Deacons are No. 108 in rushing averaging 128.3 yards per game on the ground though they’ve amassed seven rushing touchdowns.

KEY STAT

-7 – This is the turnover margin for the Demon Deacons this year. Turnovers have been a huge issue. They limited the turnovers to one last week on an interception against Indiana, but the Hoosiers have a poor defense.

Against Syracuse in Week 2, the team threw three interceptions.

Interceptions are really the only issue for Wake Forest as the team’s passing game has issues. They’ve yet to put the ball on the ground rushing, though they’ve also yet to get much production rushing.

Interestingly, despite a -7 margin, they’ve only turned the ball over seven times, but have yet to force a turnover on defense. The defense is experienced, but not likely to make the big play. That’s not helpful for an offense lacking in talent.

BETTING ANGLE

This matchup hasn’t really been much of a competition in recent years. The Seminoles have absolutely destroyed the Demon Deacons in three straight seasons, winning their most recent matchup 43-3.

Over the last five seasons, Wake Forest has scored a touchdown in just one of five games against FSU. Among those five seasons, Wake Forest did play the Seminoles close in 2011 coming up with the 35-30 upset at home.

Still, FSU is 26-6-1 all-time against Wake Forest.

ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION

Wake Forest has been very good defensively, but they’ll need to contend with a strong Florida State offense that’s averaging 6.41 yards per play. The Seminoles should still put up points with Everett Golson playing well and Dalvin Cook running all over the field.

The biggest question is the Wake Forest offense against the FSU defense and that doesn’t figure to go well for the Demon Deacons.

The team’s put up numbers against some weaker defenses, but Jon Wolford nor Kendall Hinton are the answer under center with the duo already combining for seven interceptions. On the ground Hinton leads the way with just 170 rushing yards through four games.
