Both teams enter play undefeated; only one will remain. Kansas State has had the upper hand against Oklahoma State of late, but the Cowboys have the home field edge.
ODDS
The Cowboys had the edge when the line opened at -5.5. It’s since climbed to -9. The total, meanwhile, has dropped from 51 to 49.5.
The Wildcats have done really well of late against winning teams, particularly ATS, going 19-7-1 ATS in their last 27 such games. Of course, the Cowboys are at home and are 15-7 ATS in their last 22 home games.
The last time these two clubs met, Kansas State came away with a 48-14 victory. Though the last time they faced off in Oklahoma St, the Cowboys came out victorious winning 33-29, but the Wildcats still beat the spread.
Kansas State has covered the spread in six of these teams’ last seven meetings.
KEY MISMATCH
The Cowboys’ offense against the Kansas State defense should be a fun matchup to watch with the team’s butting heads.
K-State should be able to stop Oklahoma State’s rushing attack. The Wildcats have the eighth best rush defense while the Cowboys, behind Chris Carson are ranked in the bottom half of the nation in rushing yards.
That right there is a mismatch, but on the other side of things, the Cowboy’s passing game should have some openings against the Wildcats.
Quarterback Mason Rudolph is completing 68.9% of his passes for 10.5 yards per attempt. J.W. Walsh, meanwhile, has two touchdown passes in fewer chances. Rudolph is listed as probable for Saturday and should play, however.
Oklahoma State ranks No. 19 in passing offense with 321 passing yards per game. The Wildcats, however, are ranked No. 83 in the nation in pass defense, allowing 237 yards per game.
KEY STAT
.947 – This is the scoring percentage for the Cowboys when in the red zone. They’ve put points on the board in 18 of 19 chances and reached the end zone 10 times. On the other side, the Wildcats have done rather well, too, scoring 88.9% of the time, but converting just half of their chances into touchdowns.
BETTING ANGLE
Both teams are undefeated and both teams bring something different to the table. The Wildcats are the better defensive team—even with a few too many yards allowed in the air. The Cowboys, on the other hand, have the explosive offense behind Rudolph and with receivers David Glidden and Marcell Ateman.
Historically, the edge goes to Kansas State, but Oklahoma State may be a bit more motivated to prove themselves against an opponent they’ve always found troublesome to overcome.
ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION
Kansas State has done very well against Oklahoma State in the past and even though the Cowboys are at home, don’t be surprised if the Wildcats pull the win outright. Even if that doesn’t happen, I’m at least taking the points in this one.
The one drawback here for the Wildcats is the offense. Can they keep up? Quarterback Joe Hubener is completing just over half of his passes and on the ground, the team’s a bit better, but still not exactly dynamic.
Still, Kansas State ranks No. 47 in points per game and gets the job done by not beating themselves with turnovers and penalties. Their defense should keep them close as they rank No. 8 in total points allowed.
Oklahoma State 30, Kansas State 27
