The South Carolina Gamecocks have had a good history against the Georgia Bulldogs, covering five of the last six games and winning four of the six. They're going to be up against it "Between the Hedges" on Saturday night when they have to pay a visit to Athens, though.
WHEN THE GEORGIA BULLDOGS HAVE THE BALL
There are only two words you need to remember in regards to the Georgia offense.
Nick. Chubb.
The Georgia offense didn't do much last week against Vanderbilt on the road, but that's a much better Commodores defense than most will give it credit for. Chubb still had a fantastic game, running the ball 19 times for 189 yards. He and Sony Michel are going to be busy in this one, and if the Gamecocks can't figure out how to slow them down, they are going to be in a heck of a lot of trouble.
Do keep in mind as well that Georgia runs a lot of clock. Greyson Lambert is expected to have a high completion percentage (though he didn't against Vanderbilt last week), so the only clock stoppages really should be for first downs and out of bounds plays for the most part when UGA has the rock. That should promote a slightly lower scoring game for live betting purposes as well, though it should be noted that the total in this game has dipped just a bit from 55.5 to 54.
WHEN THE SOUTH CAROLINA GAMECOCKS HAVE THE BALL
Connor Mitch won the quarterback job in the spring from Perry Orth. There figured to be some real growing pains at the QB spot for Steve Spurrier, but now, he is forced to give the ball back over to Orth after Mitch separated his shoulder in last week's loss to Kentucky.
To Orth's credit, he inherited a mess and brought South Carolina back into a game which it trailed 24-7 at halftime. For the game, he went 13-of-20 for 179 yards and a touchdown, but a costly interception sealed the team's fate late on.
The fact of the matter is that Orth might be the better of these two quarterbacks. He's a junior, so he has a little more experience than Mitch does as a sophomore, but he isn't going to be able to make explosive plays either. Brandon Wilds can break off a big run every now and again, and Pharaoh Cooper is going to be asked to stretch the field, but aside from that, this is a very offense which will have a tough time scoring more than 20 points or so against this powerful UGA defense, one which has held two foes to exactly 14 points thus far in 2015.
TREND TO TRACK
South Carolina's offense has fallen flat these last several games dating back to last season. The team hasn't scored more than 24 in any of its last four games, and six in a row have failed to eclipse the total.
This is a real problem which live bettors should be aware of throughout this game. The Gamecocks aren't going to be explosive offensively, and they are going to try to keep the game largely in front of them on defense, something which Chubb and the Georgia offense will be fine with. Even ripping off seven or eight yards at a time on the ground will both suit the Dawgs and promote an under result, and if we had to guess, there will be good money in live betting the under throughout.
