The Arkansas State Red Wolves seem to have gotten their act together now that they are in Sun Belt play instead of going against a relatively monster non-conference slate. Theoretically, a visit from the Louisiana Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns should represent a second straight win on the oddball Tuesday night.
WHEN THE LOUISIANA LAFAYETTE RAGIN' CAJUNS HAVE THE BALL
Arkansas State can give up some points for sure. The Red Wolves have had at least 31 dropped on them three times this year, including last week against South Alabama in the first Tuesday nighter of the year. However, the Wolves can force some turnovers, too. They've picked off six passes in their last two games and have a total of eight forced turnovers in that span. Going against an offense like that of ASU would make it incredibly devastating in live betting for the Cajuns to turn the ball over excessively.
Jalen Nixon has officially taken over as the starting quarterback for ULL, a decision we think will pay off. Brooks Haack wasn't nearly as good of a rusher, and the Cajuns have proven time and time again that they are a more dangerous team when they have a QB who can get out and move a little bit.
Nixon threw for 238 yards and three scores against Texas State last week.
The real key is going to be getting Elijah McGuire going, though. McGuire is coming off of a season in which he had a total of over 1,700 yards of offense, and he's well on his way to that mark again this year. The junior posted his best game of the year against Texas State, running for 170 yards on 28 carries.
WHEN THE ARKANSAS STATE RED WOLVES HAVE THE BALL
The one thing you know about the Arkansas State offense is that it's going to be a blur on the field. Snaps come at a fast and furious pace, something we saw last week when it ran 69 plays against South Alabama. That might not sound all that impressive, but keep in mind that the Jaguars ended up with the ball for much of the fourth quarter thanks to two defensive touchdowns scored by the Red Wolves.
Fredi Knighten isn't going to be called upon to do much as a passer, but he needs to be good with the football if the Red Wolves are going to cover in live betting. He only threw for 119 yards last week, but most importantly, he had two touchdowns and no picks.
TREND TO TRACK
Over the course of the last several seasons, backing Arkansas State has been a good idea here in the Sun Belt. The Red Wolves have been on a different level than most, going 21-10-1 ATS in their last 32 games in conference.
Furthermore, ASU is 7-3 ATS in its last 10 games played at home.
Sure, the Cajuns are a hot 9-3-1 ATS in their last 13 games overall, but this strange midweek game might get to them. Live bettors should certainly focus more on the positives going with Arkansas State than anything else when they are wagering on this game.
