Think there are a few Nebraska Cornhuskers fans out there who want Bo Pelini back? The Huskers are just one more loss away from not going to a bowl game this year, and that loss is almost certain to be on tap against one of the top teams in America, the Michigan State Spartans.
ODDS ANALYSIS
The Spartans haven't been a great ATS team this year, but after starting with six straight defeats for bettors, they've covered two games in a row, including their first last week as favorites.
This week, they're laying a relatively big number again at -5 in spite of the fact that this looked like a potentially tricky game at the outset of the season.
The total is on the high end at 58.
KEY MISMATCH
We've got a tremendous issue with the way the Cornhuskers have played in their secondary this year. They're allowing a stunning 315.9 passing yards per game, ranking No. 125 in the land. David Blough, who only had four touchdowns in his entire career before last week, threw four TDs against this Nebraska defense last week.
Connor Cook doesn't quite have the stats of a Heisman Trophy contender, but he's definitely showing enough to prove that he is going to be one of the top picks in the NFL Draft next year. He has only thrown two picks this season with 17 TDs, and his knack of getting out of trouble in blitz situations is going to put Nebraska in a tough spot.
We don't see this ending well for this secondary, knowing that it isn't going to be good enough to stick with Aaron Burbridge and this MSU receiving corps if the pressure doesn't get to Cook.
KEY STAT
135.3 – The number of receiving yards per game Burbridge has amassed in his last three games. He hasn't really put together a lot of touchdowns in this span, but at least eight catches and at least 128 yards in all three games in conference play since having just one catch for nine yards against Purdue makes Burbridge incredibly dangerous.
BETTING ANGLE
The Cornhuskers and Boilermakers combined for 100 points last weekend, and maybe that shouldn't be all that much of a surprise. Nebraska has a 6-3 record for over backers in 2015. It's also 5-1 for over bettors in its last six games at home against teams with winning records.
This though, is easily the best team the Cornhuskers will have run up against this year.
ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION
Tommy Armstrong has a foot injury, something which isn't going to help Nebraska's case any in this game.
The Spartans are just going to be too strong defensively for Nebraska to get much of anything going. The Children of the Corn just look like they've checked out at this point on both sides of the ball. MSU’s passing game is going to be too good for the Cornhuskers to stop, and that parlayed with Armstrong being dinged up makes this an easy spot to make the public play with Michigan State.
