College football bowl season will kick off with a bang when five games are held on December 19th, 2015. It begins with the AFR Celebration Bowl between Alcorn State and North Carolina A&T. The real attention will be paid later, with the bigger-name teams facing off around New Year’s and later. This is the second iteration of the college football playoff, as four teams are still alive to duke it out for the national championship. Top-seeded Clemson will face off against No. 4 Oklahoma at the Capital One Orange Bowl on Thursday, December 31st, 2015, at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. The No. 2 seed Alabama Crimson Tide and No. 3 Michigan State Spartans will face off on the same day at the Goodyear Cotton Bowl at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas. Even though Clemson is the top seed, the Sooners are favored, while Alabama is a heavy favorite to beat the Spartans in NCAA football odds.
The two teams which win the semifinals will face off in the national championship game on Monday, January 11th, 2015 at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. The Ohio State Buckeyes are the defending national champions and had a ton of talent returning, but weren’t as impressive this season and missed out on the college football playoff. Alabama lost one game this season, and even though Clemson is the undefeated team in the field, the Crimson Tide seems to be the favorite to win the title.
Ohio State will face off against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at the Fiesta Bowl on January 1st, 2016. While both would have loved to play for the national title, this is still a big-time bowl game and it should be an entertaining matchup. Another intriguing matchup pits No. 6 Stanford against No. 5 Iowa in the Rose Bowl, also on January 1st, at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. The Cardinals may be the lower-ranked team, but should be favored to win.
The Russell Athletic Bowl on Tuesday, December 29th will feature Baylor against North Carolina. Both teams had impressive flashes of production this year and will aim to end on a high note. The Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl will be held on December 31st alongside the semifinals and will pit No. 19 Houston against No. 9 Florida State.
While there are some other good games, all eyes will be on the college football playoff once it comes about. There wasn’t much debate about which teams should make it to the final four this year, and now they have a chance at proving their superiority.
Even though Clemson made it through the regular season unscathed, Alabama and Oklahoma are expected to make it to the championship game. However, upsets always abound at this time of year and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Clemson or Michigan State crash the party like Ohio State did last year in NCAA football odds.
