BIG 10 GAME OF THE WEEK

Saturday, October 24, 2015

Northwestern Wildcats +7 at Nebraska Cornhuskers -7, Total 51

Memorial Stadium, Lincoln, Nebraska - Noon, ET - ESPN2

Both Nebraska and Northwestern rank in the basement of the Big Ten West standings, but this is a huge game for both squads. The teams are going in different directions. While the Cornhuskers are coming off their most well-rounded effort, a 48-25 steamrolling of Minnesota on the road, the Wildcats are reeling after dropping two straight games by a combined score of 78-10. The key to the game will be Nebraska’s run defense against the struggling Northwestern offense. Home field also will be a factor. The spread seems awful high with the Cornhuskers favored by over a touchdown, but the way the Wildcats are playing, Nebraska will blow them out. Lay the points as the Cornhuskers roll, 35-20.

Other notable Big Ten games - All odds taken from BookMaker Sportsbook.

Ohio State Buckeyes -21 at Rutgers Scarlet Knights +21, Total 59

8:00 p.m., ET - ABC/ESPN2

Ohio State may have a change at quarterback for this game. Urban Meyer hasn’t made it public, but J.T. Barrett has clearly out played Cardale Jones the past few weeks and everyone can see a change is on the way. UPDATE: Urban Meyer has named J.T. Barrett the starter. The Buckeyes defense will slow down the high scoring Rutgers offense and put up close to 50 on their own. Buckeyes cruise to victory, 49-17.

Wisconsin Badgers -7 at Illinois Fighting Illini +7, Total 45

3:30 p.m., ET - BTN

Illinois had almost two weeks to prepare for this game and will be ready at home to pull the upset. The Badgers continue to struggle on offense and the Illini will be ready to capitalize on it. Wisconsin continues to disappoint and comes up short on the road. Illinois wins the game outright, 17-13. The game total is 45 and it has no chance to go over with both team's offensive woes.

Penn State Nittany Lions -6 at Maryland Terrapins +6, Total 47

3:30 p.m., ET - BTN

Maryland has a new coach. Mike Locksley takes over for Randy Edsall who was fired after a horrific start to the season. The Terrapins have had almost two weeks to prepare for this game and we will see right away what changes Locksley has made. Meanwhile Penn State lost to Ohio State and also may have lost their starting quarterback in the process. Christian Hackenberg will be a game time decision. Penn State has the better athletes but Maryland has home field and the extra week to prepare. I like the underdog at home.

Indiana Hoosiers +17 at Michigan State Spartans -17, Total 63.5

3:30 p.m., ET - ABC

The biggest question about this matchup is how will Michigan State play after their miracle win last week against Michigan. Will they come out flat or will they be ready to play. Last week Indiana gave up 55 points to Rutgers, this week they face a Spartans offense that is beginning to get on track. Michigan State keeps their record perfect by stomping the under-manned Hoosiers, 49-21.
