Ohio Bobcats at Bowling Green Falcons live betting on ESPN2 Wednesday

Ohio-at-Bowling-Green-Nov2

The MAC West is a real bloodbath right now, but the MAC East is turning into a runaway.

The Bowling Green Falcons can't quite sew up the division title with a win on Wednesday night, but for all intents and purposes, the Ohio Bobcats are the last ones who can run them down.

WHEN THE OHIO BOBCATS HAVE THE BALL

We're not much for this Ohio offense, and part of the problem is a reworked offensive line which just isn't opening up holes for the ground game. The Bobcats rank just No. 111 in the nation on the ground at 131.4 yards per game, and they're averaging just 3.6 yards per carry.

That's putting an immense amount of pressure on Derrius Vick, who hasn't thrown more than one touchdown pass in a game since September. In fact, Vick is coming off of a game in which he was picked off three times by Buffalo in a 41-17 romp, and changes might have to be made here soon if he can't figure out how to get more than 17 points on the board, a threshold which hasn't been crossed in three of Ohio's last four games.

If the Bobcats can't score more than 17 in this one, they're as good as dead against the Bowling Green high-flying offense. But more on the Falcons' offense in a second. Their defense is of concern right now to live bettors. Can they really shut down Ohio as Buffalo and Western Michigan have done in successive weeks?

BGSU is going to get a bad rap for allowing 44 points to Memphis and 59 points to Tennessee, but all of a sudden these last two weeks against Akron and Kent State, foes of the Falcons have managed a total of just 431 yards and 10 points.

WHEN THE BOWLING GREEN FALCONS HAVE THE BALL

Bowling Green's offense has put up over 500 yards in every single game it has played this season, and it's not like the schedule has been full of pansies either.

The Falcons are averaging 7.0 yards per play on a whopping 85.2 plays per game.

Matt Johnson never makes mistakes, and his stats are video game-esque. The senior pivot has thrown for at least 400 yards six times, and he has 3,321 yards and 29 TDs to go with 152 yards and three scores with his legs. Assuming that the Falcons go on to play 14 games this year, Johnson could break the NCAA record for passing yards in a season. He's on a pace for 5,812 yards. The record is 5,833.

Ohio's defense has been sneakily above average, and that's why the team still has a winning record. Opponents are averaging just 6.1 yards per pass play, a subplot to keep in mind when live betting this game.

TREND TO TRACK

Bowling Green and Ohio have a history of playing to lower scoring games. Live bettors are going to want to remember that four in a row between them have failed to reach the total, particularly with this being a Wednesday night, standalone game. Public bettors can't wait to bet overs in these midweek MAC contests, but in this case, history suggests that a total in the 70s might end up being a bit much.
